Do not wipe down the stove with spray oil, or any oil for that matter. What was an attempt to keep the stove pretty turned into a house of stink with a basement of smoke. Oil burned off when the stove hit temps and it smelled like a tire was burning for hours. At least is was only in the upper 40s last night so the open windows weren't a major issue.
That should be a fun story to tell in a few years. See, another lining. Oooh, here's another really good one....you got to burn some wood!
I had my pomade boil over whilst I was mixing it down with Vaseline, left the stove looking very nice.
Funny, I saw a recommendation to clean up VC griddles by giving them a wire brushing and then a lite rub down with veggie oil. I did that and bingo, first fire had my living room smelling like an overheated frying pan. I had repainted the rest of the stove and frankly I think the oil stunk up worse!
Top off that garlic butter with a bit of lumberger cheese and you'll have something you'll never forget.
