Been awhile since I've been on so please forgive me. I have finally convinced my wife that it's time to upgrade to a newer woodstove. I am open to suggestions as to what to get. My only restriction that I see is price. My budget is $1000 bucks. I am looking forward to all of your suggestions so please fill the flood gates. Thank you!!!!

Don't think you will find anything of quality, modern design, and normal size for $1000 without it being used.

What are you trying to heat? It sounds like the NC30 deal is still on from Home Depot, and the Drolet stoves from Menard's, Northern, etc are on sale now and then. Likely the best bang for the buck you will find in that price range. Decent quality products from reputable manufacturers.

The PE true north tn-19 might be worth a look.

I picked up a used Lopi Liberty for $400 on craigslist. It's a 2002 model and is in decent shape. After some rehab (paint, messing with the blower motor), it'll be a basement stove. My Avalon Spokane was $1300 or so. Keep an eye on craigslist or pick up an Englander, Drolet, or other decent steel stove. Do you have an existing chimney? That'd save a lot of money.

HD, sounds like a good deal. Probably the best off season deal right now.

I agree with the NC30, I had a similar stove by US Stove Co that heated my similar sized house well. It it didn't hold up like the NC30 does. That's a good price for a stove.

He forgot to tell y'all that he's heating with a Timberline smoke dragon now and has an existing chimney.

With higher end dry hardwood, what kind of burn cycle times should one expect with the NC30 or the Drolet? Hard to argue with that price.

is that 1100 sq ft counting the basement? is the basement finished? insulated? the 30 might be an overkill. its a LOT of stove for that small a space unless the house hemorrhages heat or if the basement is not counted in that 1100 sq ft in which case it would fit the bill quite well.

my buddy bought a large Drolet (not sure what model but it was pretty big), scratch-and-dent for around 650 bucks.....that stove was pretty impressive, had great secondaries and burnt very efficiently. If for nothing else, maybe a Drolet would be a good "foot-in-the-door" stove to convice your wife of the bennies with these newer EPA units......
