Thought I’d share an idea I had that just didn’t make the cut. In my daydreams I had thought winching a log off the ground to be cut in midair would make my life easier. Less bending, less ground contact with the saw chain. Capable of moving logs to the splitting area and cutting right away. So I finally gave it a fair trial run. Verdict? Not going to be a part of the itinerary. There’s easier ways. The doubled chain helps stabilize. A strap would be safer but the chain was handy and the strap wasn’t. Bottom line it’s easier to cut and roll and split in place and toss the splits on the dump truck. Then move the splits wherever I stack. Too much metal and rubber in the way. Only a matter of time before I mess up.
Gotta hand it to you Joe...youre always finding a way to save labor and your back. Would like to meet someday and see your set up. Has that wood deck on 66 near route 2 gone down?
Was looking for my sharpie. Was gonna make a smiley face for ya Brad but I couldn’t find it. Yesterday’s pocket I’m sure. Haven’t been by that wood deck since we last talked about it. There was a stack of white oak logs down at the Salmon river state forest parking lot last week. I’ve considered going down and snagging them up. Just my luck some ranger with an attitude would catch me The state doesn’t need any more wood but who knows if they’ve all got the memo. Stop by sometime. I’ll give you the nickel tour for free.
Faster for sure. Some days Ye Olde spine just doesn’t wanna. The old L4 and L5 just sit down there carrying on a conversation on how nice a wood processor would be.
I continue to try to find ways to not have to stoop so much, back is what hurts me when cutting wood. And the dirt problem. I am pretty good about staying out of dirt but it's sometimes going to happen.
