Have you gotten blocks like that before? Its not kiln dried, is it?
I bought some just like that for the same price per load here locally some years back. I didn't go back for any more because I couldn't figure out how to stack it so the air can get to more than about 50% of the surfaces, even with loose stacking...it was fresh cut Oak too so even after 3 years some of it still sizzled...I finally just burnt it anyways, just to get it out of the way. Hope you have better luck with it! Ideal honey hole otherwise!

I have gotten blocks like this before, just not so many at one time. Once I split them I think I will stack them like I stack the wood on my other wood piles. My stacks in that field get lots of sun. I live on top of a ridge and it gets really windy up here which helps greatly with the seasoning process.

Part of the issue for me may have been that the wood was pretty straight grained, so it split very straight and square...that didn't help with "loose stacking" any...hope yours works out better! But for that one issue it was the perfect solution to "easy" wood heat!

Thank you The Wood Wolverine. Hopefully the weather will cooperate the next month or so as I try to get more in the basement.

That's a lot of wood. Great job. Yep, clean wood sure helps keep the bugs down. Nice stacks. Is it all oak? Looks like maybe some tulip poplar in there as well. It was nice to meet you in Michigan too at the GTG.

That's some good looking wood there! Walt said something to me in Michigan about going to his gtg in Ohio but I haven't heard anything since. When is it? Has he started a thread on it like Dennis did with directions to his place, when it is, etc.?

Thanks T.Jeff Veal . That's one thing I like about wood from the sawmill. Most of the bark is off and very few bugs. There is a lot of oak in there, as well as maple, ash, beech, etc. All hardwood. If there is tulip poplar in there I'm not aware of it. It's certainly possible. It looks like Hurricane Dorian is going to spare Georgia, or at least that's what I saw as of last night. I haven't checked the news yet this morning. I was worried for you guys. It was great to have met you and your wife in Michigan at the gtg.

Thanks Molly. I sure do appreciate that information. I'm taking my son to the Penn State game Saturday October 5th. If I go to Walt's it will be Friday the 4th. I may just take a day off school and head to Ohio!

Spirit of Two Socks that is a great way to get some great firewood. One of the best parts is those blocks have no bark which means less ash in the stove. You've done a great job too of stacking the wood and have a good supply. It is really sweet to have a good supply on hand and you can be proud.

I can still picture you at the GTG last spring as it appeared you were constantly taking mental notes all during the party. We also had some excellent rolls to eat at that party. I hope you got some!

If I could get stuff like that, I'd take it all day and night and not go scrounging.
