I went to the sawmill yesterday morning to get a load of slab wood. I usually manage to get some nice solid blocks of wood in addition to mostly slabs. This time pretty much the whole load was nice solid pieces of rectangular hardwood. Most of the pieces were too long for my firebox, so I cut them to 17 inch length. ( The firebox on my Jotul F55 Carrabassett will take take 18 inch pieces, but I don't usually cut it that close. )
Weather permitting, I will split this wood tomorrow, then stack it later in the week.
I have attached several pics. One is the wood the way it was at the sawmill before I loaded my truck. One is of my truck when I had unloaded about 2/3 of the wood. You can see from what is still in the bed how I loaded this wood. The other pics show the wood before I cut it to 17 inch lengths and two pics show the wood once I cut it.
All this wood for $25.00. That's a full-size truck with an 8-foot bed. All I can fit in it.
I also included some pics of my current stacks and the progress I'm making getting seasoned wood into the basement. I really like this time of year as Fall and burning season is getting close. By Thanksgiving I usually have a little over 5 cords in the basement. The dimensions of the woodpile in the basement are 16 feet long, about 55 inches high on the one side, higher on the side against the wall, and 115 inches wide. The first two rows are kindling wood. ( That is enough kindling wood for about three years if not more! )

You have a nice amount of wood in those stacks.

Any guess how many cord you have, and how many do you burn a season?

Thanks MikeInMa. I usually burn about 5 cords a year. I think the total of all my wood right now in my stacks and in the basement is about 12 cords. I'm trying to get on the three-year plan and I think I will do it this year. You can see where some of my stacks are clearing out and I will be putting green wood on those soon. I may create a couple more stacks in that field. Right now there are six down there.

Nice clean tightly packed load. Well worth the money IMO! Perfect spot in the field for drying too. Nice neat stacks as well.

Thank you Midwinter. How is your hoarding going these days? I can't wait to use those fireplace gloves I won at Backwoods Savage 's gtg that I think you contributed. It was very nice to have met you.

I appreciate the comments buZZsaw BRAD. I've enjoyed all your posts and pics. You've got quite an operation going on there in Connecticut. You're one of my heroes on this site!

That is a nice neat & clean looking operation all the way around! If I could buy wood like that at that price I'd hang up the skidder & splitter lol. Very nice!

Great score, Spirit of Two Socks ! How'd those smoker chips I hooked you up with work for ya?

Great pics, you've got it down to a science buddy! I think my FIL got a few loads of wood from that same place a while back, it was nice stuff.

Thanks amateur cutter . I've gone out in the forest to cut wood, and I've enjoyed it, but I admit that it's a whole lot easier and faster just going to the sawmill and loading up wood that is already cut and debarked! And at a great price!

Hey Scotty! Thanks for the nice comments. We love those smoker chips. I'd like to buy some more bags from you. In fact, we have a little left that we're going to use to smoke salmon tomorrow. How's your son liking Penn State? I took my son to the game yesterday. If only Penn State could play like that every week!

I'll be sure to bag you a few pounds, I have around 200lbs of applewood chips ready to go. I smoked several pounds of sausage and several bricks of cheese last week, it was all delicious!

Dan is loving Penn State, he's already joined several clubs (cross country, and a conservative club, to name two), has an interview for a part-time job tomorrow afternoon and has a great dorm mate. Classes are going well, he's transitioning nicely! Had him home this weekend, he worked a big oak tree with me yesterday.....his mom and I miss him being home!

Spirit of Two Socks that is a very impressive setup you have. As a hoarder I haven't paid for any wood except in fuel and sweat, but at $25 a load I'd be all over that. The Hardy OWB would eat well.

Thank you metalcuttr. A lot of oak here in Huntingdon County, PA. How are things out in Washington State? Did you have a lot of forest fires this summer, or was it a more normal summer for you guys?

Dan is a great kid and I enjoyed talking with him at the gtg in Michigan this Spring. My son is e senior in high school this year and I'll be in the same boat as you are next year at this time. He'll be off somewhere at college and I'll be missing him.
