Not all of it is split, or even cut to size yet, and it does depend how much I lay into it to stay off the gas hvac, but here it is. The whitish and red oak on either side of the shed are a little deceiving as they are stacked on top of a rising wall. The one on the inside on the right of the shed is stacked from the ground on some pine or spruce wedges is mostly Bradford pear with a little locust.
Wow, that's quite a bit. Those trunk and car fills you bring home add up don't they? You have come a long way since those flowering cherries back when you first joined. What is your total inventory?
That is one stashed out yard! How much is burnable for this winter? Can you move some to the basement, garage, shed, or porch to keep it dry and snow free?
Those two face cord racks with the covers are ready to go, and there is probably nearly another cord that should be ready this winter, mostly in the stack two deep behind the shed (just got a moisture meter, because I’d be guessing with the dead standing cherry and even the maple and tulip.) I was trying to estimate how many cords in total.. I’m thinking somewhere between three and four cords in total. I could stack some in the shed, but it is a mess in there. I was going to rotate into the racks with covers. Our basement is like a den/play room, so probably won’t be stacking there. I was going to rotate into the racks with covers. I also have some thin poly-something sheeting that I could staple on top when it got cooler.
Depends on the year, but not too much ice. Just an hour or two north-west gets more lake effect snow I think, but we are close enough to the bay/ocean that it seems to cut down on the snow fall. It’ll get cold.. ~15f below, once or twice a winter, but then it seems to be too cold to snow.
Nice job, mrfancyplants! It has been fun to watch you gather and build the hoard - soon we'll get to enjoy pictures of the fire!
Looks good, mrfancyplants ! What species occupy your stacks? How many cord do you anticipate using in a season?
Norwegian maple, flowering cherry, red oak, tulip poplar, bradford pear, chestnut oak, cedar, black locust, black cherry, white oak, red maple, ash(green?), black walnut, holly... I think that is about it that I know of, in roughly descending order of quantity. There were some evergreen rounds I couldn’t quite place.. well I couldn’t identify; I placed them just fine. If I say I’ll use about 2 cord this year, then I guess I better get back out there because, based on my estimation, I would still have 2 cord to go until I hit 3-yr. I sure hope some of the Norwegian maple is burnable this winter. I haven’t taken a moisture meter to any yet.
