I'm going to have to spring for that MS250 and a splitter, if it happens!

That stuff is 10 miles away in Brattleboro, Vt. "For real"... o_O But, it stays over there! I haven't lived in NH yet but do own the land and met some fine folks. The people in NH are "NOT" like those in Brattleboro, not even close. They truly like their way of life there and especially where I bought. The whole south west corner is like that. I have family in the Nashua, Hudson and Manchester areas. I can't speak for them, but NH Mountain man and of course Midwinter are over there so I'm assuming it's the same. They are "Super" folks! Next thought is where I'm at is to "scary" for the timid snowflakes. They wouldn't put in the time and effort doing what I'm doing, not to mention getting up the road where I'll be living someday. It's not easy to find and quite the adventure driving up. I fell in love with this land the day I saw it. I looked for a couple years. My other thought is, $$$$$$. If you want space, your gonna have to pay for it and nobody up here is going to give it away. I can say it's "not" N.J. prices. Where I live, the closer you get to the beach the lots go up $100,000.00 in price. We just had a water front lot over looking the Delaware bay 60' x 120' went for $780,000.00. :jaw::bug: Yes, you read right... All to look at the water and get "POUNDED" all winter by the west wind and hammering cold. Most are "summer" scavengers anyway. Another thing also is you can spit, "literally" on your neighbors house there so close. No Thanks! I've had enough of that!!! :headbang: If your looking up here, there are many beautiful little towns in a 50 mile radius here.

Vermont is very beautiful and I looked there also, met many nice folks over there but some tax stuff and laws pushed me away from that. I had the opportunity for some land in Maine, from a retired CG buddy and a fat chunk of land but it was "WAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY" out in the woods. Just a bit and my wife wasn't to thrilled about that, It was fine for me. Where we bought has "all" the amenities you need with in a 10 to 15 minute drive in any direction and "Beer" in the local Rite aid!!! :coldone::cheers::drunk: What more could you ask for! For me/us it's a piece of heaven and leaving "HELL" will be sooooooooooo nice.:D:)

Have you ever scored wood this way? I've never seen an add like that.

Looks good sir! gutter as well. Coming from someone who does gutters for a living on occasion.

I see oak (red & white), maple, poplar in the pallet pile. What others have you encountered? Are you only taking the hardwoods?

About the battery. It's normal for it to get hot when used steady. Once it goes dead it has to cool prior to charging. Charge won't take if hot. Should have some type of special blink on the charge indicator light. I was cutting 2x12's yesterday and killed 4 of my 5. Charged em up last night.

I won't use chain saw for pallets anymore either for the reasons you stated.

I haven't either, it's usually come and get it. I'm curious how he will be transporting them. No callback yet, sigh...

I don't have an "official" count yet but the more I get finished here in this house, the faster I get up there to build. I'm not sure if making an extra $25,000 is worth it though on the repairs needed here... :headbang:

Wonder how much wood there is? 20" tree is 3/4 cord roughly.

    Thanks for the reply WeldrDave!
Yeah, the waterfront everywhere along with NYC property has gone crazy with what I feel is a ridicules bubble, but I have been saying that for years and the bubble is now a hot air balloon!
The other side of the coin is NYC and most it's boroughs seems like it lost all it's colloquial culture and local identity as it morphed into a globalist mecca. This has become the way of the world and lately when I visit the Jersey shore and see how the beach towns are building up into crowded cities... it just makes me scratch my head. The charm is disappearing as houses are being built to every square inch of the properties and it's all for capitalizing on summer rentals. The expanding crowds at the beaches looks as if Coney Island ran out of space and NYC started to run daily shuttle buses out to the Jersey shore lol!. Now I cant speak for anything below Seaside Heights as I mostly use north beaches and preferably ones without boardwalk attractions, but S H and points north are becoming unrecognizable.
I'm sorry to say this, but when I picture this trend continuing into the future it begins to look a bit apocalyptic and so more and more I'm taking out of my future plans for relocation. I'm starting to think acreage in upstate NY (which also has similar problems in many areas) or areas like where you purchased your land. I am also looking at Rhode Island waterfront, but I'm behind the curve there as well. Unfortunately I'm still a few years from retirement so have to stay in the rat race for the time being. I'm just a Zillow armchair prospector at this point lol, but it helps to hear testimony about properties from people like yourself especially since you also live in my state and know the comparative issues. I like how you describe your new place as being tucked away yet close to civilization and amenities if need be. I'm looking forward to seeing the home materialize so keep us posted!

Thanks, I purchased the vinyl gutter parts at HD. Seemed it would be cheap at first, but all those parts add up and in the end including gutter sealant glue it came to about $50.

Yep all those woods you mentioned and also pines- doug fir, about 60 percent hardwoods to 40 soft.

In the early 90's I was stationed in Newport. It was growing then. One of my last duty stations was New London, Ct. I left in 2012 and just before I left, I took a ride over to Newport. I barely recognized it! :jaw: It went from a quaint little sailing town to exactly what we've been speaking about other than the old houses still in Place. I'm down here in Cape May, as you most likely know we go from 40,000 to 2 million over a period of a weekend and it'll stay like that all summer. :headbang: Not to mention, the sleeply little town I'm in, "very close" to Cape May almost quadruples in people due to rentals. :hair:

I made it to the Ashuelot brewery, tasted some, and settled on the jalopeno cream ale. IMG_20190831_36390.jpg IMG_20190831_45271.jpg There's another microbrewery in Winchester, Outlaw brewery on Scotland Rd.
Just a smallish load today. The beech is so much lighter than the sugar maple! IMG_20190831_26168.jpg

Looks a little light. Maybe you should load the car before stopping at the brewery next time?

The Craigslist oak delivery is on, for tomorrow 9A! It's a three trunk oak, 2 trunks were hit by lightning, so the donor says they are dry enough to burn. We'll see. Anyway, he's a tree service out of Epsom NH, and he doesn't want to haul it back to Epsom. He'll have a dump truck and a trailer with a mini-picker, so he can stack them. I have plenty skinny logs from Dave's place, so maybe I'll have him arrange the oak on top of some of those. Gulp!

Wow...Congrats on getting the oak score!!!! This is great news and though its a big and possibly daunting load at least it's being brought to you this time.

Hey Midwinter kind of ironic that today you scored beech wood because Budweiser used to brag about their beer being beechwood aged... Remember? There you were today beering it up and hauling the secret ingredient! That looks like a great pint of beer and pretty darn good photography!

The current local small brewery culture is a good thing for a change in our modern times, though one thing I'm not fond about with most craft breweries is everything is IPA-this and double-IPA-that. I blame the IPA craze on hipsters who think its cool for some reason or maybe they're just bitter people and it's fitting haha. The other suspicion I have is putting tons of hops in beer can hide a myriad of imperfections under an overwhelming bouquet of hoppie aroma. So I think this is sort of a fail safe for many small breweries to lean towards IPA styles.
I brewed beer out of my parents house in the late eighties and early 90's before it was a thing but at the start of the home brew awakening. It was the new books that came out about beer and world brewing regions and beer styles that turned me on plus going to NYC at the time to a place that had 400 varieties of imports. It became a past time hobby for my future/now current wife as we both loved beer and learning about it. I would brew 10 gallon batches (about 4 cases at a time), but what stopped me was I started to get crazy with ingredients and it was actually beginning to cost me more to brew a bottle than to buy a good German import. I also got married and moved to a different state and into an old home that needed work haha.
Something I don't really enjoy about the new American craft brew culture...The selection of imports in beer distributors has been drastically reduced in the last 20 years to make room for all those crazy named American IPA's! I used to love buying more obscure beers from England and Germany and now there is only a handful of the bigger overseas imports offered. Oh well, that said I still like a good local brewery that seem to be good people working hard to make a good product. The breweries also bring a little local identity back to our neighborhoods even though many times the owners are from another part of the country. The alternative is Starbucks and Walgreen's so I'm glad you gave them your business and a little shout-out here.

If it’s dry, absolutely! Otherwise, I already have six cords of oak right now, I need faster drying

Molly needs to have a small group to cut wood!

    Congrats on the CL score.
