I cut and split several years old felled trees with no bark of Black Locust from nearby forest. When was cut and split back in June -July, MC content of them was around %25. Is recent nice weather the best types of weather to season them of before winter hits ?
Wood seasons the fastest in the heart of summer sun and heat. Even though humidity levels are higher, evaporation rates are at their highest during that time of year.
For sure give me July and August for the prime time but don't rule out the fall with more wind as that can do wonders.
We have had some real good wood drying weather this Summer. Today it got to 115 degrees and 15% humidity. Red Bluff, Northern California
Walking out into that heat is just like stepping into an oven. Split and stacked early, softwoods dry easily in a single season. Fortunately, I no longer live in the valley, but I do have to drive down about once a week (which I do early). My poor wife still drives down everyday. Forecast high today in Redding is 109.
Yes, I would rather be up your way then here in the valley. I guess I should grab a fishing pole and h3ead up to Grace Lake!
Summer definitely. Wood will dry year round but I always tell people "think of where and when you would dry laundry fastest"
I went out and split for an hour or so this morning. Still having a problem with my hip joint so I can't work it for too long. Still, nice to get back into it a little bit.
