This had been down for some time. No bark on it and no leaves around. I'm thinking its a tulip poplar never cut any just a guess. Hope its some sort of maple. Opinions please Last pic not same tree.
No bark or very smooth thin bark? Picture 1 with the smooth bark and very fast growing rings appears to be Ailanthus/Tree of Heaven. Does it have a bad stench? Tree of heaven smells very nasty.
No I dont think its ailanthus. I actually cut some of that recently. No smell. Splits easy, not stringy, sounded like bowling pins. Found a round with a little bark left. The other pic is of a maple. Thats why I thought maybe its maple.
Those first pics do remind me off some type of poplar...not sure though...have any pics of it after splitting?
I agree with tulip (yellow) poplar. Classic yellow heart wood. Maple would have some sort of spalting present.
I’m terrible at wood I’d but that looks like punky maple to me. Just dont ask me what kind of punky maple LOL
Thanks guys. Either way its going to go on the shoulder stack. Its free and its blocking my way to a cherry and a bunch of locusts.
