That's what is now being proposed. 78 during the day and 82 at night. If gone from home then 82 or 84; don't remember.

What is the sense of even having air conditioning at those temperatures?

When we run the air, we do 75. How cool do you have yours?

..I set mine on 80 during the day time.... and drop it down to 78 at night... I just use it to cool the temperature and take the humidity out...

I was kinda of shocked to hear what some people have there AC set too... my bill is high enough with it set at those temperature....

AC thermostat set to 76. If we're away, it gets bumped up to 80.

Only time it's lower, is when outside Temps are in low 70's, with high dewpts. In that case, it's not the Temps we want lowered, but reduction in humidity.

We have the new furnace setup for AC that'll get installed early next year, but we bought a window unit last year (8,000 BTU) and put it in one of the kitchen windows. It'll keep the house cool and starts taking out the humidity pretty quick, but I keep it at about 70-71 when I turn it on. That only happens when we start getting uncomfy or I know it's going to be hot and humid.
It has an energy saving mode that I use, and it uses less electricity than you'd think.
Our normal use/month is less than 300 kWH, so if it jumps up a bit, it's not a huge deal, as it only gets used for a couple weeks. Ran it yesterday in the afternoon, then turned it off at bedtime and opened up the windows.
Once the central AC gets added in, we'll probably set it closer to 75 and I may put the window unit in the shop just to pull the humidity out.
I still remember my Grandma's house being set around 80 in the summer. :hair: So yeah, not much point in having it. That was more than 50 years ago.:BrianK:

    Who's idea is this? EPA?
We never had air when I was a kid, and still didn't until I was 31 years old and in my 2nd house.:)

If we had AC, it would be at 80. That is what we did in South Carolina.

Not epa but right now I can't recall what the name is; something about energy anyway.

You got air conditioning a lot sooner than we did. It was some time in the late 80's or early 90's when we got it. Then even done away with it for a while when that unit went bad. Although we have it now we run it sparingly and thankfully we've ran it a lot less this summer than we did last year.

In the living room when it's hot and muggy, we're keeping it around 73 but the bedroom 66 to 68 is what I like.

We don't run the AC each day even when it's hot and muggy, we use some tower fans.

    The humidity kills me!
Turn the a/c down till the humidity goes away. Temp doesn't matter as much, but 72 is good.

yea I work in the heat all day, I want to be cool when I get home. I run 1 window unit set around 67 in a back room that does a good job of cooling the house.
When it gets really hot, I turn the other one on AC, it usually is on recirc to help move air from the back to the front.

I heard this on news too Dennis. I actually thought about you and I both keeping our homes nice and warm near 78* in the winter, paradoxical, huh? Grew up with a swamp cooler, then did the same as an adult. Here, we don't have enough hot days to need one. I bought a window a/c for the bedroom but it ended up the living room, we run it maybe 5 or 10 days a year.

I work in the heat too...that's why I don't want the house cooler than 75, it just makes it that much worse when you go to work.
Honestly, I short cycle the AC sometimes...just let it kick on long enough to noticeably draw some moisture out of the air, then turn it back off...

Well even though my back room AC is set around 67, I change it occasionally. The house itself is much warmer (78 in the living room now). I know you're right about it being worst.
Speaking of, time to get out there and do some stacking in between the skeeters.
