I’m in Bangor and have to look at a feller buncher in Enfield tomorrow. Looks like I have to work Saturday, doesn’t happen but a few times a year fortunately. We have a couple months of work at home to get caught up on soon before I start on wood.

My Bush Hog was getting tired so I sent it to a welder (I have a stick welder and can do work that doesn’t have to be good). He was amused and sent a video. I’m having trouble with y-tube tonight, so here’s a couple of screenshots of what he found.

The second pic shows a bar that was supposed to be welded to the bar below it. And wasn’t.

Rocks like this are part of the problem as I back into places I can’t see into well.

Here it is, back home. She approves.

Then I mowed about 4 hours before doing this

The rust is fresh since the break. First time I’ve ever broken one.

Fortunately I had spares. I found one and started sharpening and trying to get the bars the same weight. The manual says within one ounce. But they were too different, so I gave up and found two more spares that were matched. Now she is humming along nicely!

Wow, those rocks are rough in equipment, glad we don't have too many laying around like that. Tree stumps kinda rough too.

Yes, it was pretty close to dark when the rain finally started. We’ve been bone dry for a month, with showers all around us but not here. That corner of the hayfield I was mowing is normally too wet to get on in the spring. I put some good rut on the edges of it this year, but yesterday I was in 2wd the whole time, with dry tires.

I grew up on a rockless farm, but this place is about the opposite. I dream of owning a mini excavator and cleaning it up some, but I can buy and repair a lot of Bush hogs for the same money. Most rocks lie like an iceberg, with 90% submerged, and you just bounce off the top. The one I broke the blade on I hit dead-on, running a gear too high. I think it was the forward momentum of the tractor and the blade at 12-o-clock, unable to swing, that did it in.

A neighbor did in the whole pickup on his round baler on a rock, trying to clean up a field that is normally pastured, and like me it was a lapse in judgement.

Maybe you could use your FEL to move some. Do you have a grapple?

The field pictured above has a stone wall along the road, and over the years some rocks have snuck back into the field. I used the FEL to dig out 5 yesterday. The smallest one I was able to roll, but the others were in the 300 to 500 lb range.

It is hard on the loader, and I view the tractor/FEL loader differently than my Bush Hog (which is expendable).

I’ve borrowed a 6’ wide grapple for brush, and loved it. Since it was borrowed I was tentative around the rocks. I think a narrower grapple, like a Frost Bite, might be the ticket. And I can rent a mini from the Mrs’ company. I did that once, popping out the rocks and then moving them with the FEL.

I’m also placing fill to get over the top of some ledge-like outcrops.

I just finished putting a drum of trash into my truck with the forks and did a quick switch over to the bucket and planned on engaging the quick attach arms once I stopped to throw some brush into the bucket. Well I didn't..... I FORGOT! :headbang:

Dumped the load down an embankment and whoosh.... bye bye bucket!  Oh did I laugh!

If it makes you feel any better, I cut half the perimeter of my yard with the mower deck locked in the transport position on Friday! If a stupid mistake can be made, I am sure to make it!
