I have cut out and built a number of fire rings for sale to other folks. I have always wanted a smaller ring for our own yard that had some neat Pacific NW motifs. This way I will get to burn a lot of the uglys and scraps and sit around a campfire and sip whisky with my old friends and reminisce about when we were strong young men. Here's what I got so far. Made the ring to break into two pieces mostly for storage. Not sure how much use I will get out of that feature. The sides, bottom and pads are of 3/16"steel. The legs (which run under and stiffen the bottom are of 3/8" material. The legs give 5" underneath. I will have 2 cooking grates, adjustable for height, in corners over the legs and three holes in the rim to support a tripod for hanging a pot. Last of all, maybe a screened dome for spark arrest. We'll see about that one.

Will it stay on the patio? I would keep it there, to isolate it from combustibles. Is it light enough to tip over to remove ash? I've never had a fire pit. I don't stay up late enough! The spark dome sounds interesting, I know it will be decorated somehow. Altogether a very inviting looking firepit!

Very nice! Have you thought about a cooking grate for the pit?

I agree with everybody, it is beautiful. I also was wondering about weight.

That is part of a problem! The Wif has extracted a promise to build a stonework patio in the outback area of the yard to put the ring on. At least I will get to take out a small tree! Tips ok but I will make a scoop for ashes. When I make the dome I'll post it.

Thanks all for the positive comments. I'm glad to finally be getting it done!
Yes, two adjustable grates (thanks Eric VW ). Also I have seen rings with a tripod above them for coffee pot or Dutch oven and such. I will give that a try. Nothing like accessorizing your fire ring!

I can carry it OK with a buddy helping. If the Wif helps, she struggles a bit. It looks larger than it is, only 29" flat to flat and 34" point to point. But plenty big enough to take 16" splits. Didn't want a huge one, just big enough for a few friends!

That is some very fine work, sir. Great job. Would love to see it with a fire in it at night.

Exceptional piece of art as well as very practical. How do you handle rain water in that?
