Standard poodle. Apricot but I was told by a poodle expert she is very red, and redheads have a "different" mindset that can be loopy or not quite right. That along with hanging out with me here 24/7/365 (vs being out and about with other people) turned out to be a difficult and challenging combination for her, so we have a long ways to go get her happy and not afraid. She's sweet and loving 80% of the time, but the other 20% is very sad for her and hard on us and the occasional visitor. She trains well, yesterday at the rec center parking lot she reacted badly a few times, I began giving her commands to redirect her attention-it really helped!!

It's just SOOO weird that kiddo is one of her best friends, but she's afraid of other little girls her size and age, well, same with people, or even seeing WWW on the roof of my truck securing the OTA tv antenna last weekend.

I hope I can kennel train her successfully, she's always stuck to our thigh right now with the exception of being outside here at the house. Right off the bat I think I need to do something for sweet Blondie, she's not healthy (no cure), older and spends a lot of time in the area near where Peaches kennel will be (my side of the bed in our bedroom, cool and quiet in there) and I have a feeling she might really like the kennel and use it all the time. I'll have to try it first and see what happens, then either move Blondies dog bed next to it or get her her own kennel. I did a kind of elaborate shelving project in there recently, too cold here to store things in the garage like most of us do so those items need to be in the house (1/2 sq ft our previous home of 21 years plus garage items in this house too). I had a sense of accomplishment that I conjoined the wire shelving racks together, sturdier, saved a couple inches to squeeze in one more rack, but now I have do disassemble the entire wall to remove a few bottom shelves for the kennel and Blondie dog bed :rofl: :picard:

Asking for help with Peaches poodle,

I've been doing pretty intense training for a couple months, awesome obedience results but it all goes out the window when people outside our family of 3 are included. She obeys commands both on leash and off leash, happy and shows she's proud to do them for praise and now clicks too. Around other people including riding in the car/truck is a different story, obeying commands goes out the window and fearful barking starts.

WWW cannot help socialize her. He is not onboard with rehoming her but said I should do what I need to do since he cannot help. ( he was going to take her to work a couple days a week, when it sunk in how bad the situation actually is during the session with the personal trainer he realized it's not possible to have a dog that appears aggressive at his shop much less get any work done).

I'm torn on doing whats best for her vs how much we love her and the impression on kiddo. I framed it for kiddo how hard it was for Peaches to be afraid of normal things at minimum a couple times a day (slumber parties are out of the question at the moment, 15 hours of torment for her and me too). That a different owner that lives in the city will help her so she will be happier. Kiddo is on board but, I just cannot figure out what the best thing to do for everybody is.

It sounds like she needs more help than you can give in your situation and that creates stress for everyone. She senses you guys are stressed, and stresses more - a vicious cycle. I know re-homing is never an easy decision, but sometimes it is the best for all involved. Keep us posted.

Our Lucy is in a rehome situation by coming to us. I think it took her a month to stop looking for her four kids (human kids). I’m biased but am certain both her and her prior family are in much better situations today. They weren’t doing things wrong, but they were not in a position to deal with her and we are.

We took in a young abused Yellow Lab years ago. She did not trust me, and was aggressive towards other dogs. She came around fully, but it was a lot of effort, at a time in our lives when she was our only responsibility.

Before lady, we had an Italian Cane Corso mixed with a Mastiff that came out of New York City. This dog had what's commonly referred to as fear aggression. she would not hurt myself my wife are my daughter but anybody else is fair game. After 10 days she had to be re-homed 2 a more quiet less visitor area where she could feel safe. They call her coffee cup head she is 150 lb and she plays with dairy cows all day long perfectly happily. I went to see her she's great. Rehoming to a better environment it's not a bad thing..

Thank you for responding bogieb , Thor , Flamestead and Canadian border VT , you all are spot on with my situation and I appreciate it. I am really struggling with this. Cannot believe this is real. Seems her really bad days are always followed with a few magical days. This would not be happening if I were not pretty much home bound now with a dog with fearful tendencies, and would have been a cinch for me to correct in the past, but reality keeps getting in the way.

Acid test today, confirmation on my decision on rehoming so my mind and heart could agree, we went to town, lil bugger did better than all the other trips ( I'm shocked, I expected the opposite). I recently reached out to 2 neighbors that know her behavior and know some of my hindrances, they volunteered to help me with testing. They will play the roll of the "stranger" coming into the driveway or into the enclosed porch and knocking at the front door, if she doesn't come around quickly I'll rehome her.

Difficult decision and I'm having a hard time accepting what I could and did do then but cannot do now to :loco:  this hard decision even more.

Sorry to hear of the issues. Our dog Holly is a rescue dog. We have figured out it was Male who abused her. She does not care for anybody in a uniform, Male or female. She loves women (unless she wearing a ups uniform) men coming in the yard she is doing some serious barking that makes them stop and think. She has never bitten anybody. We did learn at Dennis GTG that if a man sitting she is more than willing to gradually let the man pet her but if that man has been petting her it has back to stage one. Unfortunately we have discovered a few triggers with children that we take precautions with in group situations that we use a muzzle with. I hope everything works out for the best and for you.

Two of mine have thunder issues. One seems to be getting a lot worse as he ages, I mentioned it to the vet and she gave him a script for Alprazolam (generic Xanax). You are supposed to get in them early, like an hour or more. The other day I saw some storms coming our way so I gave him a dose. The storms died out and we just got rain, then the meds kicked in with the opposite effect, made him anxious, panting, pacing all over the house. I gave him an antler to knaw on and that seemed to work to at least occupy him a bit...until he bit his tongue badly:picard:, so then I had an anxious, panting, bleeding, pacing all over the house Hound:picard::hair: anyway Xanax works for cats too, it did work for the other dog.

Xanax is also misused as a street drug. One to keep hidden. How about one of those thunder coats and/or CBD upload_2019-8-8_15-8-29.png I would stay away from big pharm products if possible. also consider benadryl or

As for the cat, she can tough it out. We all have our problems.
