In the field beside me, the neighbor had a mulberry partially blown over (along with many other trees). She gave me the go ahead to start cleaning it up. WooHoo!! I love this wood for heating.

And it got dark on me. More to come later.

Here’s a pic of what mulberry looks like after about two weeks in the air. Cuts yellow and seasons red.

I know I used to be immune to it. I don't know if that's still true anymore though, and I'm not going to test my luck.

    Nice score!

As of now, I’m putting it on one pile. Landowner was planning to pay someone but she reached out to me first. I offered to saw everything up but I told her I’d have to create a brush pile and maybe burn it after a while. I think she plans to have her son rent a chipper at some point. I have a couple massive pines to clear. I might mill those.

Strangely, I’ve never been bothered by poison ivy either and I guess I am pushing it. Tomorrow we’ll see. My wife thinks I’ll have bad.

Must have been the microburst. Bad storm two weekends ago. I’ve never heard it sound like that before. I honestly thought my roof was going to pop. Scary for about 10 seconds. I got a nice walnut that uprooted across the alley right across my street.

We had a couple limbs come down from the huge silver maple. Got real lucky as far as I’m concerned.

We have a Gettysburg address but we’re a little bit north of town. In between York Springs and Gettysburg Pa if you know the area.

Scary stuff. Amazing what mother nature can do. Glad you and yours are safe and no property damage (other than trees) either. We had a microburst (June 2015) and tornado (May 2018) and damage was similar to yours. From the looks of things your wood hoard is going to be a lot bigger when all is said and done.

fwiw, a tip I learned from some old timers was to keep a 50/50 mix of bleach water and wipe yourself down at the end of the day.
I don't get it much myself unless I have an open cut and brush against it. Sometimes a blister will develop but the bleach just dries it out.
When I was about 14 I was helping clear a field weed whacking and the such. Didn't pay attention/wasn't told about the poison ivy/oak.
I had a serious case of it, ended up needing a shot. Worst then the chicken pox. Must have kicked my immune system into gear on that stuff afterwards.

Soap and water works well as long as you’re spending a little extra time on affected areas and not waiting too long to wash up.

No signs of poison today. Ivy is one that has never bothered me. I have gotten poison before but not sure which. I used lye soap and Ivarest on it. Took a few days but that regimen did the trick.

Both this part of the tree and the poison ivy vines appear to have been dead for quite some time. Which seems rather odd.
Almost like it got sprayed with a defoliant. Or something.

If you were wearing gloves, long sleeves and long pants you may have gotten lucky with contact with any oil covered sawdust.
I have a habit of taking gloves off running a saw and get it between my fingers, back of my hand. More so with the weed whacker. And even mowing and pulling the lawn clippings out of the mower baskets - hands.

No gloves and a short sleeve T. I was all up in it with my hammer and wedges. It’s all over the base and a little stack of already sawn wood beside it.
This tree had previous wind damage. You can see where it was splitting vertically. I’m hoping the storms that are predicted for this afternoon push it over. If not, I’ll use the Jeep.

That wood suck. No way I’m wearing long sleeves to cut, too damm hot! Every piece of clothing I had on you could ring out from sweat. If it doesn’t rain this eve, I’ll be back at it.

Any soap designed to cut grease will wash the poison ivy oils off...I use mechanics hand cleaner.

I was pulling poison ivy vines at my MIL's last Monday. I was hot sweaty and was trying to be mind full not to have it touch my arms or face. I wiped my brow with my shoulder rather than back of glove. Came home right after and scrubbed well with soap and water. Got a touch on both arms, size of a quarter. Rash a day or two later. It itched for a couple days and rash has gone. Seems the only time i get some is picking up roadside wood in short sleeves. Dunno how bad i'd get it, but didnt want to take the chance. I understand the sap is like getting grease on you. Its that hard to remove.
When i was a kid my friend got it real bad on his hands. They looked like that of the elephant man.

And yes, all this talk of poison stuck in my mind. I did wear gloves this evening and tried to keep from wiping my head. One dry piece scraped against my wrist just under glove so I got a bit paranoid and called it quits to shower off. I put Ivarest on the brush-burn just in case. Have to work at the bike shop tomorrow night so we’ll see.
