Looking for a small pancake style air compressor to use around the garage, something that is portable. Prefer the 6 gallon design. also interested in finding one that includes a nailer. Something along the lines of this - https://www.amazon.com/DEWALT-DWFP55...y&sr=8-11&th=1 Is that a good deal? What are my options? Ive done a little bit of searching, but am wondering if maybe im missing out on a better deal perhaps. Thanks
I got the red one from the HD a few years ago with an 18G, a 16G nailer and a stapler. Seems like I paid about $200-250 on sale. It's still running, but I don't use it every day. This one..............Porter-Cable 6 Gal. 150 PSI Portable Electric Air Compressor, 16-Gauge Nailer, 18-Gauge Nailer and 3/8 in. Stapler Combo Kit (3-Tool)-PCFP12234 - The Home Depot
Mine is starting to sound like a Freight train lately, but it still does the job. I use it with the brad nailers, and to air up the vehicle tires.
I don't think harbor freight has packages on their compressors but their new line (fortress) is supposedly very good and quiet. but not a pancake, it's a hotdog.. If you're not going to use something very often, buying stuff from them isn't a bad deal at all. Personally I'd look for a compressor that wasn't oil-less
I think just about any decent brand in that size/price range will give you good service, especially if you are not a professional using it every day. I'd go with whichever one is on sale near me. It seems like they are frequently on sale as an "lost leader" to get you in the door. FWIW, I picked up a Bostich branded combo pack many years ago and it works really nicely.
Yeah id much rather prefer an oil cooled or oil filled compressor, whatever they are known by. The porter cable C2002 compressor is about at the top of all of the "top air compressor" lists ive seen and reviewed, it is however oil-less.
We bought a big cheap oiled compressor from harbor freight in 2008 or 2009 for installing hardwood flooring, the thin rustic looking oak that required many nails, a neighbor offered to loan us a commercial nail gun that required a certain psi thus the big oiled compressor. It still works well but is really inconvenient to move around, outside we have dirt/gravel, and the inside it's a PITA to get up and down different elevations and small door ways. In hindsight for what we use it for I would have bought a pancake one. Just some thoughts.
more airhose in that situation and high flow fittings. Those big ones do suck to move around, I have a tall oil kobalt one at work that I hate draining the oil out of. Just no easy way to drain it, it's top heavy and you have to tilt it to drain it. I'm glad that doesn't happen too often and it doesn't need moved.
I have had this one for 10 years or so. Makita Canada Inc Very quiet. Weighs 50lbs but feels like a lot more for some reason. Maybe it’s me. I use it in the shop for nailers and airing up vehicle tires. There are times I would like a bigger one but I have always made out just fine.
I like that.. tempting. Was wanting atleast a 5 gallon tank but.... I may be able to make an exception. The whole oil lubrication thing is a big deal, and that there has it!
