What kind of wood am I?

    When i first looked at the wood, i said hemlock or some type of softwood, but you said it was a hardwood. Had me stumped.
    Eric VW got it! Is the center pith a characteristic of all ash species? Never seen that variety before. Great post Breechlock1

    It is ash, but not the one you circled. It's a type I've never seen in my area of ohio

    If it's blue ash, it's nothing like the blue ash here in northern Kentucky. The bark in your picture is much darker and, well, just different.

    It is! Trunk is a bit lighter The pic I posted is limb wood. There's all kinds of things that change what trees look like. I've see white ash, burr oaks, shagbarks, etc look different on the same property let alone state

    Blue ash is the only living ash I have on my place. EAB, for what ever the reason, either they save blue ash for last or don't touch it at all. It's being studied to see if its traits can be transferred to the other varieties of ash.

    It's one of two... either a Firewood Ash or a BTU Ash. Would need to see the grain again to be sure. :whistle:

    This one was dead. Less than 10 percent of it leafed out. We have eab bad here but I saw no holes. I think it was just eol
