At some point you're at bandsaw mill territory hardware-wise. There's doesn't seem to be a metric for sanity beyond deviation from a norm. So a 2nd 880 for someone who <3 milling with a chainsaw might not seem too absurd.
No your not nuts at all. You love power equipment! Im starting to hoard saws as well. Just got a new 261 and am considering a 250 on CL as i type. IMO if you are going to be using it a lot to mill them by all means yes get it. I dont know whats involved with installing a milling attachment to a saw having never seen or used one myself. Although unclefess made a very good point with the 660/661! How much do you use the 880 now? Cant recall seeing it in your posts since ive been a member?
I use the 880 felling larger trees and bucking logs over 24 inches. I do not use it as much as my 461, but I have recently found a passion for milling.
I use the 36" bar on my 460 with no problems. I think a 661 would fill you cutting needs and use 880 for the mill...IMO! What type of wood are you milling?
The 880 I am working on is used, but barely. Trying to get a deal if you know what I mean. The next new saw I buy will be the 500i, if it ever gets to the US.
a few on the forum have them already the 500i(US members) FHC guy from Greece AlfA01 has access to them. I inquired if he gets one. Do i really need one? Of course not but CAD is very catchy. Just bought a new 261 earlier this month. Ebay steal at $432 inc shipping!
Two of the 880 saws seems like overkill, but you are cutting hardwoods. Where I live an 880 would be a pure milling saw, it would be total overkill to use one for bucking 16- 32 inch softwoods. Two 880's and a double ended milling setup would be impressive for milling big oak, or any other wood species!!
I would use the 880 ya have and buy and potentially port a 661...you will love that 661 so much you won’t use that 461 often I would bet.
And that’s coming from a guy with way to many saws. Lol. Either way you will be happy with a new toy.
