Hi guys - had a chance to pick up this 50 about 3 weeks ago. In great shape - had to repair the tank vent and pop a ring gasket on the gas cap, but otherwise, gave her a good cleaning, tune, and she's running great. Compression was 155 and piston and cylinder are spotless. Wasn't planning to keep her, but I like the saw - I think she'll hang around for quite a while. Fun little saw for limbing and clean up. The 50 is a 49cc saw. It's the 300th anniversary edition, so I'm 99% sure it's a 1989 model - but I need to check the badge to be sure. For a 25 year old saw, she's in great shape! Cheers!
Your 455 is about 56cc and I'm sure has a more pep than this 50 - my Dolmar PS-510 is 50cc but eats this 50 up in the cut. It was a bargain and in great shape, so will be a fun saw to limb with, etc. A 60cc saw is real nice for most firewood cutting when size of logs gets bigger and you want to get through the cuts faster and with less work on the saw. My 61 is a strong runner and fun to use, and my 262xp is an absolute joy to run for the bigger wood I cut - it's my favorite saw by a long shot. What are you thinking for a 60cc saw? Cheers!
I like my Husky, never ran any stihls so I can't compare. I have been to the saw shop a few times looking at other husky saws only because I like mine and they are all I know. I told the guy at the shop what I had and what I have done with it, he suggested a 70cc but the price tags scared me off. The 455 has a 20" bar on it but struggles on the bigger rounds while bucking. This is why I was looking. So maybe a stronger 60cc saw might fit the bill??
Yes, a good 60cc saw will pull the 20" very nicely. 70cc is probably overkill for most basic firewood needs (but would be fun!). If you are going to stay Husq, look at the 550/555 models, or 562xp - getting up there in price, but you're getting you money's worth! Cheers!
