Did a little more metal detecting today, with the ole husky 266xp. Here's a slightly blurry picture of the '' toof's " (teeth) on my chain. This is the 266XP that i had 3 rubber mounts put in it the other day, i posted about it yesterday. Well, went ''detecting'' today, but, didn't cut a single piece of wire out of this block. And, sorry for the blurry picture of the chain, but, took it with my ipad. Anyway, this chain is down to its last ''toof's'' (teeth) and i took this old saw just to see how it would cut after i touched up what was left of the teeth, several of them are missing. This is green oak, and my saw had not been started since i picked it up. Switch on, choke on, "pop'' choke off, first pull it takes off, i kick the trigger off and let it warm up. Start cutting and, i'm shocked to see it throwing chip's like it did!! I'd guess at least 4/5ths of the chain is gone, and lots of teeth are missing, the old 266XP chewed right through about a 18'' diameter oak, and never missed a beat! I honestly took this saw just to see how good or bad it would cut, considering how little of the tooth is there. I was really surprised to see how well it cut. I'll be honest, when i first bought this old 266, i thought i'd been taken pretty seriously. Not so much now, this saw runs, cuts, and preforms great, at this point, no complaints at all. Its even kind of becoming a favorite saw, lol. New chain in the very near future, like tomorrow.
The old boy that used to be my boss had a 266xp. That’s what hooked me on good working saws & huskies. That saw is still at the shop & I still like to run it. It needs a little TLC before it gets run this fall. I’m always on the lookout for one I can call my own
It's called a skip-tooth, or in this case, skip-teeth chain. Like a ripping chain only with enough room for gravel and other large shrapnel.
Mine has less toof than yours! None missing either. One more use then a one time disposable chain after the lasst sharpening. Still cuts good IMO with that much meat gone. Guess i like to get my money's worth out of them!
I've got quite a few with some good tooth on them for the 044, about 2-3 cords worth i think. That chain came off my old beater 266xp; The guy i bought it from told me his brother used it for a falling saw. I'd say he got his use PLUS out of the old girl. (chain)
Well the old beater 266xp (rat saw) is complete, new rubber mounts, really tightened the old beast up, put the 24'' forrester bar back on it. And, went down this morning and picked up my new chain, mounted it, she is complete, and ready to flail a wood pile.
You know what, that's not a bad idea, after all, it does have teeth, not many, or not much of them but they are there. Might give that a shot!!
