Lupines must love your climate!

 

They hibernate haha. Our winters aren't what a lot of people assume, but not comfortable for lupins

Nebraska equals 450 miles of I80 straight shot no hill or corner in sight. Those corn stalks must be tough to support that wind tunnel.

Ahh, the joys of a mis-spent childhood.

 

Chaz ,we could start a whole new thread on old cartoons ,i think it was saturday i watched a bunch of the schoolhouse rock videos ,love that old stuff

 

You have that right, I've got so much more.

Schoolhouse Rocks, good stuff there as well.

 

And it's at an Audi stealership. Lol

 

Lived a year and a half in Laramie, I'd say it's close.

 

They do well here too. We planted a few this year, and we will plant more. They are beautiful.

I know I always try to just keep it under 100 mph. Just

 

"Move To Town"

"My grandson means the world to me,
But there's no future 'round here that he can see,
And he just graduated high school late last June.

He wants to make something of himself,
And I know I wish him better than I've had myself,
But I'll miss our nights watching those old cartoons.

He couldn't get a job to save for college,
So he's gonna have to take a loan.
And if he wants to put his degree to use,
He's not getting a job near home.

So his parents helped him pack up their banged up truck,
He's renting a room for a reasonable buck,
Gonna hop aboard and start her up,
Take a nice slow drive around.....

And move to town.

No sooner got his tuition paid,
Well off his dear old dad got laid,
Government don't act till its too late,
And now the likes of us is gonna pay,
Daughter in law don't make that much at the take away.

So you can gripe and curse, be sad, be mad,
But there's only so much choice to be had,
When you look in the paper and there's no hiring ad,
Gotta play the hand you're dealt and it's just too bad.
So they're loading the truck for the second time around.....

To move to town.

I guess they'll visit every weekend they can,
If they can't make it they know I'll understand,
Hardly seen my other kids for 20 years anyway.

They didn't really want to go,
But sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do you know,
They couldn't find much of a living up this way.

So they packed their rigs and took a nice slow drive around......

And moved to town.

The old 2 storey down the end of the road,
Had clothes on the line and wood in the stove,
Kids out running if they managed to finish the chores.

Grandpa gave a few bucks if they mowed the lawn,
No sooner done and they were out long gone,
Running for an ice cream at Dave Collins' corner store.

But grandpa's time came to pass on,
And their mom and dad's jobs only lasted so long,
I guess the house haunted them without daddy in his chair.

Still see them on the odd sunday,
Laying flowers on the old man's grave,
When they look towards the sea they shed a tear.

Don't seem like so long ago they buried him in the ground.....

And moved to town.

And that's one house of the top of my mind,
But seems like I could point out 99,
If I could walk right around this old place like I once did.

Shingles crumbling, rain leaking in,
Paint flaked off and the siding rotted thin,
Scattered brick falling off the chimney now and then,
There ain't no salvaging these structures again.

Trees growing up through the floors,
Neither young one out by the door,
Well nature reclaims herself and it's only right.
Better off in one way I guess,
Sometimes more is found in less,
And there sure ain't much noise up here at night.

But less is less when you got a business to run,
And Dave had less and less customers come,
He sure did miss the little ones,
He wasn't selling much for chips and gum.

And the big bulk stores had a better price,
Dave couldn't buy enough to put up a fight,
Was more worth a whole afternoons drive,
Than to buy from himself, now that's not right.

Well Dave saw the writing on the wall and had to close down......

And move to town.

Lil museums open 5 months a year,
Get a fair amount of tourists here and there.
Well it's the same thing you always hear,
"It's so beautiful, I'd love to move up here"
(If I could only hook a job somewhere)

Well the clinics shutting down this month,
Doctors mostly twiddling their thumbs.
Mostly seniors up here nowadays,
But I guess we were built tough back In the day.

I mean I manage pretty good for 83,
But now I'm the only one who lives with me,
And I will get nervous with the hospital so far away.
That nurse for so long now I've known,
She got a job in an old age home.

I mean, she'd be a familiar face,
A sight for sore eyes in a Strange new place,
And they'd bring me back and bury me with my wife,
I'm sure they would, I've lived her all my life.
I guess it's time to throw the towel down.....

And move to town.

Well 3 years in, I still don't feel at home,
Neither does nurse Jenny, but at least we aren't alone.
But I guess it's just as well, cause a familiar face moved in,
Well it's Elsie Wilson, my poor old wife's best friend.

She said they sent a notice, the greedy government,
A vote was cast, and it was time for our resettlement.
We could stay if we like, but the roads won't be plowed,
Well you tell me, what good is that to anyone now?

Well there's still some summer cabins, weekend getaways,
And the tourist season will reopen come the month of may.
Your house is looking weathered, and I'm sure mine soon will too,
The kids said they'll take me up next summer and get it looking new.

I'm not sure if I want to now, it still hurts to recall,
I thought I'd die in that old house, I thought I'd seen it all.
I don't think I have long left now, this place might kill me yet.
I almost wish to lose my mind, cause there's things I should forget.

Almost wanted to walk into the bay and drown.....
Closed the back door, and I just looked straight down....
The day I had to take a nice slow drive around......
