I have 13 trees that were damaged by the ice storm and are now showing signs of weakening, posing threats to either my home or the portion of the hydro line for which I am responsible. So, they have to come down. These I get done by the tree service. (I'm not taking any chances with the power line or my home.) They'll spent two days, take them down and buck them. Included are 7 large sugar maple, a large beech, some smaller trees...and maybe another sugar maple, previously (decades ago) struck by lightning, at which time half the tree came down. It has failed to leaf out this year, after several years of slowly dying. Going to have a lot of splitting to do. Hope we get a dryer summer than last year....it isn't looking too promising at the moment. Also, hoping for wind, as the mosquitoes are already bad, thanks to the snow melt and subsequent wet spring. At least we don't have the deerfly to cope with yet. Just ticks, paper wasps and mosquitoes.
Wow, sounds like a good deal of nice wood! Hope you have enough able hands to help. What State do you live in? Maybe one of us could drop by for some splitting help.

I was out yesterday, and the ticks and black flies didn't seem active in this cool weather. I''ll be out there again today to take advantage of the last cool day. The waist-deep poison ivy is still active, though...
Not been active here either but temperature has not been favorable for them. Under 56 they don't like. Even at 60 they aren't too active.
Lots of black flies and tics here. Also getting some of those tiny ants that find their way into the house. I had hoped the cold long winter would have taken a toll on them. Instead it targeted my shrubs. Lots of trimming back to be done.
