Thanks for the well wishes... I will wear it when wooding or if it bothers me other times... You got the "old" part right...... getting old ain't for sissies, but it beats the alternative... I'm blessed the have lived almost 57 yrs... several of my friends and classmates didn't...
Well, we added a bit of wood to the BBQ/SMOKIN' stash yesterday afternoon. Got this pecan limb from a friend up the road. When we got home from there, we went to my sister's next door and got out the cherry trees the storm in February broke off. We were able to pull it down and out in her yard to buck into logs. The stack of cherry wood. Hey, jrider it's going to be smelling good in Goat Town Ga.
So you're still working, we use to have a whole bunch of cherry in our stacks which is nice for early on when it's not that cold.
This morning, we started back splitting, working on filling the remaining racks. Got that all oak side finished, moved the splitter down and set up, got backer panel moved and added this much to the next section. This will be a mix of hicky and oak, no bark, for a BBQ/SMOKER customer. We were done about 12:45...my hunny said it was getting HOT...I don't know what have her that idea...I mean we had 2 fans going...lol
Baby she's hot outside, watch out, jeff, take some good breaks every now and then. By the way, you and your wife have some of the nicest stacked, and sized, wood i've ever seen. You 2 do a great job.
We take several water breaks, usually have a small cooler with 8 bottles in it close by. Thanks for the compliment...we tend to split a bit smaller than some folks, as my mom and a few others are older and can't handle heavy pieces, I think it dries a bit faster too.
Love your stacks! I split about that size too. Makes for tight stacking, in the shed and in the stove. I really admire Carol for giving up a job in the AC, to work on firewood with you! Give that girl a saw!
Walmart has gotten really rough to work for, I think she just wanted to supervise me...lol...I told her I would get her a 180 or 261, she thinks they are too heavy...our dealer even showed her the new Makita Electric. It's light and plenty of power, pretty $$...
Catching up on the thread, but are you sure that was hickory you were cutting? I think it may have been butter with the ease that you dispensed of that round. Seriously, it is nice to see how it is supposed to be done. It probably would have taken me a full tank, especially with an undersized bar. Do you usually take it all the way to the ground if it is on the ground?
Which picture are you referring to?? Yea, I had a sharp chain and both saws have been modded. They are strong now. I guess it depends on the tree or log...when we are in the processing area, I have a portable skid made from 4x4's that I stack the logs on to buck. Hope you have a great day
I was referring to the video of the “hickory crotch log” 1 page back. Nice work all around though. Edit: and I think I see the skid under the far side.. just a rectangle, right? I wouldn’t offer much clearance, but just enough to keep your chain out of the dirt.
Ok, yeah, once I got the hang of running that saw again...lol... Yes, it's a rectangle, built so it fits between the tractor tires...gives about 3 1/2" ground clearance. I thought about building one out of 6x6's, but would have to move that with the tractor...lol... Thanks.
We got a bit more SS yesterday morning, almost a face cord of hickory and oak... I knew the XS029 was getting lazy sitting in the shed, so I let her out to get some exercise, cut up a bit of oak and about 3-4 hickory logs The XS029 liked it so much, it asked for a second helping.... another mornings work. These 3 big crotch rounds should be fun to split.
