Took these on the way home from camping trip yesterday. She took waterfall and flower pics and me, well you guessed it, took tree pics. Something only a FHC member would understand. Anyhow, i noticed this tree at two separate areas with the same leaves. I believe it to be box elder? If not what is it? Cant say ive seen any in my area of Southern Connecticut. Pics are from the NW corner of the state. What do you folks think? these were from a small tree next to the waterfall. this was a good sized tree maybe 24" BHD on the side of a mountain. Leaves from same tree.
It looks to be in the maple family, as is box elder. But looks unlike any variety I have in my area. My guess is a variety of silver maple? But, those leaves and seedpods scream box elder the bark is throwing me.
I think you’re right for the first picture. I also think the leaves in the first and third pictures are different species of maple..
