Yes. However, you can increase the odds of self pollination by slapping the plant around a bit while it is blossoming to increase the pollen distribution that normally native bees and wind would do. This "slapping around" or shaking also can help stiffen the stems. Like this: Just on a rather smaller scale. Tomatoes are supposed to be self-fertile so you shouldn't need two plants.
Just on the dirt. You can get some on the leaves but it should be diluted and in a solution because as a powder straight out of the can is likely too strong. . If you want to spray it on the leaves then google "baking soda and tomato leaves" and you might find how much to dilute it to be safe. I've never tried it. Just on the dirt. Can't say it helped anything but the sales of baking soda though. I do know copper sprays help with other funguses/fungii.
A good copper fungicide and or chlorothalonil fungicide will help slow it down. Is that fresh potting mix in your pot?
No way fess!! Was just looking where it all came from and guess what? Whoops, the pair of us are foreign they say. Your right.
Picked first wax beans, a few garlic, and a half bucket of black raspberries this afternoon. Beats are sizing up now and will be pickled and canned within the next two weeks. Strawberries are finished and I have 6 gallons frozen for jam making this weekend, along with basil/garlic pesto. Things are sure getting busy in the garden! Japanese beetles don't seem as bad this year, maybe due to deeper frost in the ground this past winter...will know more over the next stretch of hot weather next week.
Here are my black capped raspberry bushes after picking this evening. It is just getting started and producing 1/2 gallon a day now.
I have most the flowers from the clearance sale I hit at wally world planted, getting them into soil was delayed with late cold spring, now the mosquito spraying planes have been delayed 3 weeks, so even though it warmed up, we cannot go outside unless soaked in deet. Thankfully most of them made it The tiger lilies you so kindly dug and sent Chvymn99 are getting ready to bloom!! Oh yes, also, ....!! A very nice couple offered up rhubarb to share, and they dug a starter root up for me, and it's making new leaves!!!! ( I tried a Gurneys twice the over the last few years, they do not ship here til June, the starter roots never had a chance to get started, so this is Fantastic)
Hope you don't get the jap beetles. they have been here for the last 3 weeks or so. they seem to really like the aspargus plants. i did hit them with a shot of "juice" but they were back in a week or so.
I got out every afternoon I am home and pick them off my asparagus and red raspberries and drop them into a ice cream pail with some water in it. They don't seem to like the black raspberries very much. I have poor apple tree in particular out of six on my property that they flock to. They also like morning glories and pole beans. Some say they like rhubarb, but I seldom have many at all on mine.
