COOL! It wouldnt be the car hoarding thread without you. Looking forward to seeing its evolution! Do you have a trailer yet?
Funny video. Somehow i see a Farmers Insurance commercial! Will the dump load you up with wood that way? I have had the guy at the dump drop topsoil and mulch in my PU, but he gets the one yard bucket. Really makes it bounce, especially if its wet!
No, no favors from the loader at the dump. He just wants everyone out of his way, so he can push new stuff into the pile. Anyway, the dump is kind of over for wood scores. That's why I figured I'd better move to a trailer, so I can go for CL and other scores that may be bigger and farther away.
This is exactly my thought as well. I see so many posts on CL on the south shore that would be worthwhile if I could load down a trailer too.
Too bad about the dump source, but as you've stated hoarding is an ongoing evolution of sources. How long did you get wood from the dump?
LOL. Years and years, before I even joined FHC. I really ramped up taking dump wood in the last couple years, though. I'm glad I did, now, because my yard is stuffed, and I'll just have to replace what I burn. Craigslist is too ruthless around here to be a dependable source, but if I just get a few big scores a year, I'll be OK. Big for me is three quarters or a whole cord. Uhaul rents little 5x7 trailers for $25/day, so I'll do that for awhile, rather than buy.
Yeah so much for that. I ended up watching Charlotte in the morning, then we had company in the afternoon.
Yeah, you'll be able to do that blindfolded with one hand tied behind your back. Just little by little opportunistic scores and roadside finds throughout the year and you don't even need it to be nearing dry and split right away since you are now a few seasons ahead!. That sounds like a good position to be in. I have a feeling even without the dump you'll be looking for more room in your yard for what you find and can't pass up
I had to stop by and see if any of the red oak was left from before my summer Florida trip, and I got a few short splits of it... the rest may be buried under a load of fresh yellow popple. It is so much fun to split I had to grab some, but not worth holding up my workday with several loads of popple already seasoning.
The oak a couple weeks ago might have been my best car hoarding score, but I think this is my biggest btu wize. I may have bottomed out the shocks.. but it felt ok on the ~1 mile drive home.
My wife says that I am going to ruin the car hoarding like this.. I tell her that a bad transmission ruins a car, not a messy interior. That argument works for the most part, although sometimes I worry about the extra load on the transmission.
ROFL! That car is full! I can’t stop laughing. You are awesome...if u find wood that’s good, fill every spot....well done. Whoooooooooood! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That is a thing of beauty! You were only driving a mile so its probably ok on struts. I know it's all a matter of perspective as far as cars go. Me I have a utility car for large groups and hoarding haha so I don't mind it, but that said, you are hard core! Tell your wife it could be worse. I was working on my porch today wainscoting the screened in area unbeknownst to my neighbors when I heard the little lady yelling about something her husband was doing while sitting in their parked car. "I don't want you doing that in the car!!!" She was yelling. When he got out of the car to say whats the big deal??? she answered "I don't want you doing cocaine in the car!" He has a drug problem and she is always yelling at him for spending their money on drugs when they have a small child...it's really sad.
