Nope.......We are over 1000 miles North of the quake area.
We are about 25 miles south of Portland and about 10 miles West of Interstate 5 near Newberg.

Here at the ranch we are on a range of very stable basalt hills called "The Chehalem Mts." These lumps of rock go down MILES and we rarely get the wiggles...and if we do it's barely felt..

    Here is a piccy

Chehalem Mts. run East and West and are fairly abrupt on the south facing slope (Facing Newberg) and they stair step down on the North into the Tualatin Valley.

The Range is about 15 miles long from West to east (Give or take) Highest point is Bald Peak at the West end at about 1600 feet high...We are located about 5 miles East of the peak at 1200 feet.

I was in Riverside CA when a quake happened. I was in a wooden building that started shaking and cracking. Ran out side only to see the telephone poles waving, the ground was rippling, and I had all I could do to stay standing. That was over 50 yrs ago, but the memory is still vivid.

Well, my desk computer is going to the great scrap heap in the sky. Guess the graphics card overheating also damaged part of the mother board. Yesterday the screen went white and a new card didn't help at all. Great that I spent 2 hours driving to/from Best Buy because they are the only ones that actually carry computer innards (I tried the local Radio Shack and then Staples - ha, ha, ha). And of course they only carry gaming type cards. Got home and found it didn't help. Oh well, figured I would take some time to look around at what is out there for computers. Then I got the mail (delivered mid afternoon for a change instead of 6:30-7:30 at night) and found I received some stuff that needed to be completed before Monday and my laptop ain't going to cut it. So back out to BB to return graphics card and look at computers. Wish I had had time to look thru refurbs or maybe even build my own (I had been casually looking, but thought I had more than a week)

I did get most stuff backed up last week after the first glitchiness showed, but that doesn't help with all the software I now have to replace since the place won't slave my present HDD to the new one. Since so few places even keep any type of computer or parts around, I had limited choices (probably should have walked and gone with #2, but they probably wouldn't have been any better). They'll have it done this morning, so it will be another 2 hours out of today to go get it. Then more time downloading a bunch of software

New one doesn't have a space for additional (old) hard drive in the case? If there is, could you "drag & drop" files from old HD to new one like a Mac? Or isn't that allowed on a Windblows machine?

You can get a docking station and connect it by usb (slower) or sata (faster). The new puter will see it as another drive but I cannot remember of it will run the installed software or just be able to be seen for file transfers.

I think jtakeman has built some in the past few years and can enlighten. Or maybe slvrblkk CleanFire ttdberg or Grizzly Adam can chime in on use of your old drive to run software or if you just have to bite the bullet and re install (which really is the cleaner way of doing it)

I think Snowy Rivers is a Linux user as is SmokeyTheBear but may also be able to help
