Took the splitter out and had some new "ears" put on it. These are made out of 3/4" plate, bet these don't bend. I'll take some better pictures tomorrow, the sun was glaring off the ipad and i didn't get a very good shot of the ''ears'' that knock off a chunk of wood that gets stuck on the splitting head. the other one's were really flimsy.
Looks great! Did you add that thicker chunk of wedge at the top of the wedge? Or did it come like that?
its a speeco splitter 22 ton and the splitting wedge is what came with it as is. The only thing i did add are the heavy duty ''ears''. Got bored today so i went down to ACE and bought a quart of rustoleum, Hunter green, and painted it. With a brush no less, lol. It was in the high 70's almost 80 so i laid the paint on and kept my brush loaded. Believe it or not, it turned out looking really good. I wiped it down really well first, then started painting. By the time i got the first coat on it had set up pretty good, plus the wind come up a little as well. So, about 2 hrs later i put another coat on the whole thing. I've still got 2/3rds of a quart left. I'll put some pictures up tomorrow after i get back from church.
Here it is, in her Green glory, I don't think it looks too bad for a BRUSH on paint job. I've since washed the wheels makes it look even better. Maybe i should add a red and white reflective saftey strip in the middle of the splitter base on each side.
Here's the "new" paint job Jonn Deere green. The reason for the C clamp and the piece of wood on the base , is there was a storm headed this way, big , black clouds, and i felt a few rain drops, so, decided to cover it up until it went by. I used the board to keep the plastic cover off the base since it had just been painted. then i ran a 2x2 past the ram mount and put the plastic over that, forming a tent to keep the drying paint from getting wet. It didn't rain! lol.
last picture. ACE Brand paint, goes a long way's and its a very good JD match. I have nothing to do with ACE, its just good paint.
Thank you, you do know i did it with a paint brush right? With the exception of the wheels, that is JD yellow spray on. At ACE, you get a lot of paint, with a decent nozzle on the can that actually sprays in a fan type pattern. By the weight of the can, its full. One more thing i might do, is replace the tongue, right now its a pretty flimsy (thin) channel type. I'd like to put a piece of 3x3 square 3/16th's hollow on it instead, if they make it. And, maybe a retractable, type landing gear behind the hook up point. Right now it has a pretty thin, flimsy drop down piece that i really don't like its so thin and it feels like it could collapse. But, it does work. thanks again for the compliment.
