In all my years of scrounging/burning wood, i dont recall ever paying for firewood. I did comp the dump guy with a $15 Dunkin Donuts card recently. He let me cut a truckfull of wood after hours. Does that count? I wonder if cigarsmokingzombie has seen this yet?
I've heard of some paying that much but delivered. I guess in some areas out east people are willing to pay. Not me!
Exactly! CS & delivered high quality dry White Oak out east maybe that kinda money. That pile there's just yard waste till somebody makes it into firewood.
white oak is generally $225-275/cord "out east". 'Seasoned'. I bet they're entertaining lots of offers to make a dump run for them for a price. People that know nothing about firewood often make the error that the value is the wood and not the labor to turn it into firewood. Course Craigslist sellers often have crazy prices here because the lowball offers pour in within seconds of placing an ad. Facebook's marketplace isn't much better.
A recluse dude across the street from me bought the house and moved in and promptly cut a few humongous oaks. Cut them into rounds, rolled them to the road into a pile and put a sign up 'for sale.' Has not had a taker yet. They are huge rounds and it would take two people to lift them. Would be some mighty fine wood. I would even be willing to pay a little bit but not much, I have plenty of wood. But it is right across the street and I wouldn't have to fell and buck. But when the guy was cutting the trees, I walked over and asked did he want to get rid of the wood and he said he'd sell it but he wanted too much. The stuff it just going to sit there and rot because now he changed the sign to 'Do Not Enter.' I think people figured the wood must be free. It's been there two years lol!
