Been looking for a specimen like this for 25 years. Always close but too rotten. May not be a big deal to some of you folks in certain areas but “antlers” in decent condition are rare around here. My old hobby was building rustic furniture out of big pieces of wood. I found one that’s usable. Bigger than I had wanted. Imagine a glass table top with that as a base. All right you also have to imagine that after putting a cou0,e bucks worth of Clorox bleach on that too I know a girl who does rustic stuff. Just getting in the biz. If she can’t envision a use for it I may just make myself a tv stand for the big screen.
that is cool Joe. What species? White oak maybe? My late father made a lamp out of an old stump years back. No bleach, maybe just a gentle pressure washing? Will the bleach alter the color, no? Will the beer can be incorporated into the finished project? Great for a man cave if yes!
I don’t know the species. I’d like to think they are the remnants of the last chestnuts but that’s getting a little crazy. Lol Just remember my old man showing me old rotten trees that looked similar and he saying those are the last of the chestnuts. 50 years ago The bleach should gray it up nicely. It’s a little gray in spots anyway. Remember it’s soaking wet today.
Have a bunch of locust stumps in the woods behind the house that look like this! Well, the ones that are still there. The others have been cut up to burn! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Super cool find! Stoked to see what you come up with for it. As far as species I'd say it's probably a rot resistant variety. I'd say locust or cedar. Habitat doesn't look quite right for cedar though so probably locust.
