The metal gloves work very well till you get snow and ice on the wood, they also radite the cold. They tend to slip them maybe stud them? Of course you have to oil them after every use, I like the remington Dri lube. My self have tough old hands and do not wear gloves till it gets down to 35/30F range. These I like for those times but I only use them when I carry wood inside. Al

BTU of shoe leather and cotton rags is around 7,200/pound. ANy man-made fiber, like thinsulate is probably closer to 10,000-20,000 BTU per pound but they are fairly lightweight enough to probably be insignificant (by weight) in a pair of gloves or boots. Sometimes referred to as 'not enough'.
