This past Saturday a tornado went through some family property leaving an incredible path of destruction. The house faired well and only needs a new roof and storm door and cleaned off. Another hundred yards towards the house and it would have gotten destroyed. The woods on the other hand, they bore the brunt of the storm. I used to know these woods very well but when I tried to cut through them yesterday to look at all the damage I wound up coming out in a totally different location than I thought I would, they are completely unrecognizable now. This is a very good reminder of who's on control! This is directly behind the house, the day before that was a solid wood line down the right hand side of the hay field. The road to the back of the hay field The new mini barn that was delivered last week Tree carnage In one way it's a hoarders dream because there's a thousand trees that need cleaned up. In another way it's a hoarders nightmare because there's no way I'm going to be able to put a dent in this mess and the vast majority will be sitting and rotting and haunting me.
Wow. Talk about a damaged woods! Glad the house got through it even if it did get some damage and better yet, you did not report any injuries. I remember that my wife and I lived in Indiana one time for 2 years and it was tornadoes that really got us to wanting to move back north.
sorry to see the mess you have, such a shame all the trees have gone down, years to grow and gone in a flash.
Wow! As others have said, thank the Almighty that no injuries, but what a mess. A central Indiana GTG might be in order to help clean up some of the carnage. I would certainly participate.
Can't really like this. Very glad there was no harm to life! My first thought on seeing the pics of those splintered, bent over trees was "Look out for all the energy stored in those bends! What a nightmare to cut." Hope you are able to get back to normal as painlessly as possible!
Monroe County has lots of damage, but no serious injuries. This road was blocked for a good distance. Going to be a lot of cleanup. Glad to hear you are safe. A fellow in next county had just completed building a barn. Not insured yet. Totally destroyed. My cousin had a tree crash onto her home. Lots of trees down in yard.
My pictures are from Freedom, another relative lives in Elletsville and was about a half mile from the damage there.
Glad everyone is safe and your damage (other than trees) is minimal Boogeyman. The power of nature can be very humbling. Your photos remind me of the damage around here from the May 2018 tornadoes. We were spared, but a couple miles away, LOTS of tree damage. Kind of hit or miss. Most property damage was from trees landing on them. Couple state parks were devastated. One just reopened. Pine groves looked like they were cut like a cornfield.
Glad Boogeyman and Sourwood are ok. I live a few counties away from you and and have been through those areas many times. So sad to hear of the property damage but glad that the owners of the property are around to see it. Stay safe.
I am glad your home and family are relatively unscathed. I had a similar conundrum after the major ice storm in ny in 98. I can say this, my dad had firewood for years. The immediate hits were huge, but the die off from other trees for the next 5 years was large also. Good luck and be safe. There must be a lot of loaded trees, so be safe!!!!!
So glad to hear of no injuries. Several years ago I was involved with FEMA to help clear a tornado row. It was the most dangerous thing I have ever seen. I witnessed a large oak that when it's tension was released it yanked a skid steer clear off of the ground and forward about 15 feet bashing the guys head. Please be careful and don't let your guard down.
