Little plastic cap on the valve has fallen off twice now on my splitter, got 32 hrs total on it.
Today I noticed fluid dripping from the cap. Can't tighten the cap down anymore it will just spin off
    here are some pics.
Also paint is flaking off already as well, doesn't affect operation but I've kept this thing covered completely with a tarp or in my garage.
So I think its crap for not a year old and babied pretty much. But maybe that's just me..
    What says the collective?

I agree that things just are not made to last anymore. It’s up to us to make them last. The only person working on my stuff is me. Warranty visits are a last resort.

    Is that a
Is that a County Line splitter? You shouldn't be having fluid leaking from the plastic cap. That is just a cover for the adjustment on top of the valve. Needs to be checked. We have the 30 ton fast cycle County Line and we were have trouble with the valve sticking on the detents, wouldn't return to neutral on the return stroke, and sometimes not stop on forward stroke valve felt sloppy. Made minor adjustment to nut and threaded rod under plastic cap, seems to work better, but will call TSC if it gives trouble again.

    Yes the 25 ton countyline.
Cover fell off a while back, I screwed it back on, it didn't want to tighten up much so I went as snug as possible.
I looked over while splitting today and it's laying on the ground again. I snugged it back on and that's when I noticed fluid on the hoses
little later I saw a drip on the bottom of the cap itself.

When I bought my splitter, within 3 weeks it had a hydraulic problem. It was at the dealer a month. Warranty yes. Convenient for me? No.

wow I agree not convenient at all, but now would be the time, since my back 40 is still too muddy and I'm caught up at my other spot.

Then by all means see what your dealers service department is worth. If your not going to miss it, make them earn you as a return customer. I thought I found my forever outdoor power store. I was wrong...

If the valve is leaking it needs to be adjusted &/or repaired. It will only get worse. The valve on a friend's splitter occasionally failed to release when he retracted the shaft. He contacted the manufacturer who provided step by step instructions on how to attempt to adjust the valve without changing the pressure settings too much. When he took off the cap there was the tiniest amount of hydraulic fluid in the cap. He tried to adjust the valve then called the manufacturer back. Based on the fact that the valve was still occasionally sticking during reverse and the drop of fluid in the cap service guy suggested the valve needed repair by a trained mechanic at an authorized repair center. He then offered to send a new, properly calibrated, valve to the owner if the owner felt confident he could replace it himself. The valve arrived a couple of days later, it took about an hour to swap, end of issues.

I think having the user swap the valve served both the manufacturer and the owner. The owner's machine was back on-line quickly and the manufacturer's expense was limited to the actual valve and did not include the cost of a local mechanic.

Never any harm in talking to customer service...

Yeah unless that oil is coming from an easily repaired fitting or something, the valve itself shouldn't be leaking and will get worse over time...get warranty on it while you can.
As for the paint, just get a rattle can and touch it up...seems the paint prep on most things is crap anymore...unless you spend big bux on your equipment, and even that's not a guarantee of getting a good paint job anymore...

I'll give the warranty dept a call, see what they want to do.
As for the paint peal, I didn't expect the paint to hold up in some areas, but that area wasn't one of them.
It is a cheap splitter afterall and I guess I shouldn't expect much, it works well for what I do and I am grateful for that.
I can nitpick about several things on it, crappy looking welds, splatter that wasn't cleaned up.
metal wear like another user posted a few weeks back. Which I will live with.
The design of the beam is going to cause wear. No matter how clean you keep the beam wood/bark is going to
get under the wedge and force it up onto the rails. No amount of grease is going to help it.
It's impossible to get that debris out from the wedge once it is in there, until a split forces it out.

Countyline is a lot like my DHT. No idea about their warranty and service ability. With my DHT they could find no one in the state willing to work on it. That aside warranty was good. Whatever was breaking they sent me for free. Almost everything broke the first year. Ended up replacing half the splitter.
If you can get them to send you the parts do it. Let the original leak until you can’t take it anymore then replace. It’s free under warranty. It’ll cost you money later.
My warranty is up and my second ram is bleeding. Living with it for now.

Man sorry to hear about your DHT, I sure hope mine doesn't go that route.
Probably made by the same global conglomeration. I haven't checked but I know the menards version is.
I need to call them still, basically just sat down, but I don't have any quiet time yet..

I think they’re same parts just different paint. I got the Friday afternoon, Monday morning version. Hope yours does better. Sounds like it already has.

I made the call and they are sending a new valve for me to replace.
I'll probably do as you suggested jo191145, leave it leak till it gets worst.
At the least wait till it gets colder and I do a fluid swap.

Just make sure you swap it before the 1 year warranty on the hydraulic components runs out. If the new one leaks or has any problems you want to test it while they will still replace it.

I guess I would have done this different. I would have let them fix it. The reason why is that way you know what the service department quality is. Better to know that before then when you have an important part that you really need.
I always find a mechanic before I get new car.. Most of my stuff is old like me:cool:

If it were me, i wouldn't wait on it, i'd take it back, get it fixed properly. If you wait a week, it'll run into 2 wks, a month, then you'll say heck with it. After , it'll be too late. You'll not be happy with it until you get it fixed. The paint coming off, it could have had some oil on the metal before it was painted. Take it back to them, make them fix it, you paid good money for it, and its not working right. If you don't take it back, they are really cashing in by not having to repair it. They get paid or allowed a given amount of hourly wages on warranty, so they are making money on it. Trust me, you won't be happy with it until you get it fixed, and get it fixed right.
