Hey Y’all, I am using my chainsaw today to clear up some stumps and ugly diseased trees. A couple weeks back I was noodling some rounds and cleaning up the woodpile. After I got done with that, I decided to clean my saw. Wiped it down, examined the spark plug, etc. While doing that the black rubber plug and internal wire in the black rubber thing that plugs into the spark plug got messed up. The wire kinda broke and the pin in there got turned around. I thought I repaired it and ran the saw for ten minutes or so with Motomix. Now I can get the saw to start and it will cut for a couple of minutes, but eventually it makes a sound like it’s overheating/overworking and shuts down. Then I start it back up, it runs for ten seconds, makes the same sound, and shuts down. Would appreciate any guidance you have. Thanks!!
Uh oh, that end has to make good contact at both points, plug & wire. If it isn't you'll get intermittent spark/run. Worse when warm normally. I've had pretty good success with automotive style repair ends on those. Replace the plug as well. Worst case is a new coil for the saw. We're going to assume no engine damage at this point & just an ignition failure.
Any parts store should have wire ends & boots. Look up Accel build your own wires or similar, you'll get the idea.
The prong/wire and boot are both replaceable and available at your dealer. You dont have good contact as stated and creating heat in the ignition module aka coil which then shuts down when hot.
For those following, I has been slow to fix my saw since it is so hot. Essentially I replaced the boot, spark plug, and air filter and my saw is now working. It is not working like a dream (it took a couple pulls to get it fired up), but it is running and cutting as one would expect once it is started. It had relatively old gas and had been sitting for a while, which could explain the slow start. Thanks all for the help! It is almost cutting season!!
