Was a nice sunny day yesterday, seemed more humid than it has been. GF had to dog sit so she slept over her daughters. I decided to go early (for me on a Sunday) to the honey hole and cut a load. The sun doesnt get on the mound til early afternoon. Well the sun beat me...in more ways than one. Cant work as fast in the heat. I bucked three logs and loaded. PU didnt even get half way full. The 460 dulled after the first ash log, didnt feel like sharpening it so i started the 290 and i went farther back and cut smaller rounds. Logistically tricky to get the rounds out, plus full sun. LOTS of breaks and a touch of heat exhaustion. This load: 40% ash, 20% red oak, 20% sassafras, 20% red maple View from the mound looking down The mound when i got there. The single log was wedged between the two ash logs from last cutting and propped them up nicely to buck The mound when i left. With the warm weather and work it may be a while til "take 9". Stay tuned!
That is an impressive amount of BTU's you have there. If there's one thing I can say about you buZZsaw BRAD , you are not afraid of hard work.
Thanks viewfinder .The log pile isnt mine, but i have permission to cut. Maybe 1/2 cord in each load.
I have a log pile stash that a group of us have access to. It's at a broadcast transmitter facility that recently cleared the paths to the bases of the antenna guy-wires. They set aside piles of white and red oak as well as ash and maple. I've pulled out about 5 cords from it so far. That may be it for the season for me. I have quit a bit stacked in the yard already. Remember to pace yourself Brad the sun and heat can be unforgiving.
I can tell CT wasnt like DelMarVa yesterday, 90+ degrees and super humid!! No outside work for me at all!
Lots of work, but that is a great setup for getting firewood. How far from home is it? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Nice work Brad. I did a little cutting early and a little splitting late. Missed the hottest part of the day.
Nice load there, buZZsaw BRAD . Glad to see you are hanging in there. Good size rounds to load whole...I will probably get on the splitter when I get off tonight at 7. It's a little cooler then.
The sawdust is getting pretty deep! We're getting some cooler weather the next couple of days, I hope you can take advantage of it.
So you have a honey hole too?! Have you posted pics viewfinder ? As ive learned FHC guys love pics. Any available? I know RI got hit hard by the GMC last few years. My oldest stepdaughter lives in East Greenwich and oaks in their yard got hit. Many years of experience working in the heat on the roof of all places.
Thanks T.Jeff Veal Back actually feeling pretty good right now...maybe a 3 on the pain scale. Appt is Wednesday morning for Orthopedist. I learned the BTU factor from this load. 13" Sassafras rounds vs. 13" red oak rounds. The red oak was cut last to fill out the load. By that time i was pretty shot. Stay cool and hydrated my friend!
Nice work buZZsaw BRAD ! I cut this load yesterday, but it was cloudy & humid here. Only maybe mid 70's so it was sticky, but not hot. The heat kills me.
decent looking load of smalls and skinnies amateur cutter. I'm still undecided if i prefer small rounds or the behemoths from here. I realized how much the heat slows me down yesterday. Idve had this load done in less than two hours if the weather was like the early trips. I think it was 3 hours for this one. Once the sun got around it was tough. Clouds help, but humid doesnt. I may go there Sunday for load 9. BIG oak again!
Nice work! I melt in the heat while working. I really really try to limit the hard work like this to days it's no weather than 65°. Their the sun in there and humidity and I'm a mess. Sweating through shirts and feeling over heated is no good.
Rain and T storms forecasted for here tomorrow. Busier than usual with work. Have a cord of wood from prior two to SS. I dont like to have too many rounds on hand and get more. In years past that wasnt the case, but ive never had this much wood before Midwinter . A trip to the honey hole could come without warning though! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk[/QUOTE]
I shouldve got there earlier than i did. After 430 its in the shade, but still would take over two hours in the warm weather. Cool and or cloudy days will be the norm now for going there. jo191145 i came thru last Friday evening on 66 and noticed fresh cut ash on 66 WB 3/4 mile past Stop n Shop. Two trailer loads. Looked decent. If i had time i mightve stopped for it.
Its 5 minutes one way. Drive in, back up, cut and load. Cant get much easier than that! Oops, i cant say "easy" when referencing firewood making Reloader . I think its FHC taboo!
It was decent looking mix of smaller and larger rounds/lengths. I have a multi day job coming up in Willimantic next month. If im not too tired i might stop and grab/inquire on the way home. But its your neck of the woods (no pun intended). With my HH, I dont really need more, but old habits die hard and the PU will be empty!
