Sorry, I meant English sparrows. We call them house finches as they make nests in rotted soffit and fascia boards around here.

English sparrows are very aggressive and push natives birds out of nesting sites. They will kill an adult bird sitting on eggs or baby birds and build their nest on top of them.

Even the cooperative extension wants us to pull out their nests, addle eggs and whatever to cut their population down.

That's not bad. With 22 (or much less for that matter) you don't have to see the neighbors from the house or they you, so personally I call that quite satisfactory. But we don't have taxes unless you're under town council here.

Not sure why your neighbors land cant be built on, but Worst fault in many places is that all it takes is someone with too much money to buy something and bribe the government to re-zone if need be. My uncles house used to be surrounded by farmland along a 2 lane road.....few businesses started moving in along the road bit by bit, but once a big farm was sold that was it. Now it's a 5-6 lane road and a massive commercial zone, if he wanted to sell his place it'd have to be for commercial use.

There's one little section of road across the bay from me, the harbor is right across the road and behind the houses along it is a massive cliff, so it's more or less physically impossible to have anyone build in front of you or behind you. Being beside a national/state/provincial park should be pretty secure too.

I guess i was more thinking of being next to land nobody owns, which is great till the wrong person claims it.....my great aunt and uncle have a decent spot, I don't know exactly how big the property is, it's not several acres or anything but you can't really see the next door neighbors through the trees, it's not right on top of the road and there wasn't any property behind it. Till along came a big dollar company with their big subdivision with a fancy name. Now she's been wanting to get some extra trees in the hopes of blocking the visual. For that reason, I don't mind being surrounded by other properties with the houses spaced enough to be comfortable, but not far enough that more are likely to be built. Still want to finish the tree wall around the border though :BrianK:

Those lands could be in conservancy or maybe he means "won't" be built on unless the neighbors decide to subdivide and sell.

Cow birds are a indigenous to North America. And they don't usually kill other birds, just lay eggs in their nests and let someone else raise it (they adopt out the kids before they are born). True, many times the cowbird chick gets most of the meals, so the "real" chicks may suffer or die, but this is the way they evolved within the native ecosystem.

House Sparrows (English Sparrows) are not related to any North American sparrow and were brought to NYC in the 1850's and shortly thereafter had spread widely. They will attack and evict native birds from their nests as well as destroy any eggs in that nest.

Looks like a great day for the last day of the long weekend for folks. The grave sites are all decorated now. Think I'll split some wood while thinking about our soldiers.

TrinitySouth99 and bogieb .. Here land is taxed at highest value.. Usually developed price. Farmers can sell development rights and put land in conservation so tax rates are significantly lower.
So even if the farmer sold the farm which is 1000 Acres. The new owner would only have the right to build his personal residence and the rest of the land would have to stay agricultural.
This made my property more valuable to me.. more so because I am up up wind of the farm so I don't have to smell it.
Our property taxes pay for k-12 education and are high.

Got the yard, beds, shrubs, and woodpile sprayed for ticks and other bugs with Crosscheck. I've already pulled a bunch off the dog but with all the rain, spraying may first like I normally do wasn't an option when I wasn't working.

Gonna let that app dry for an hour or so, then break out the selective herbicide to knock out my weeds. Hopefully the weed control will dry before the rains revisit this afternoon.

Dog is ultra pizzed that I'm outside and he's not. He won't wear rubber boots so inside he stays lol. IMG_20190527_122312.jpg

In from the cottage for a short while. Still tackling those danged drywall projects; its working out nice this way. Give it a coat of mud and then sand it down the next time we're back in town. 99 thinks its ready for paint but I know it is nowhere near yet.

Visited the cemetery and paid our respects/prayers just before noon today.

Had two nice days (could wear shorts!) but now it is back to cool/wet weather with highs today of only upper 40's.

New neighbors at the lake from the L.P. So far so good! :handshake:

Got some painting done, opened up the screen porch for summer (took the plastic off), grilled out nearly every day at least once, grabbed a small load of wood with the side by side, and of course the obligatory fishing and campfires!

Thinking about shutting down the internet/TV here for the summer months...….

Back from Sac.! Now my part of this ordeal is over. I never need to drive a Toy Tacoma pulling a U-Haul over another mountain pass in my life.
Dad is safely there, everyone has assured me-"They got this..". The main moving truck will arrive sometime this week, then I'll see if they truly "got this..", they have no idea what's headed their way.
Gonna take a bit to decompress on my end, but I've started my barley pop therapy so I'll be good to go in no time. :coldone:

Yeah, just flew in (and boy are my arms tired! Badum tisss) ;)
Once we got past Glenwood the traffic decreased. But going up to the tunnels and Vail Pass was not fun. We timed Friday morning so most of the snow had melted on the West side of Vail Pass, but there is this one corner that sucked. It always sucks, always in the shadows. But we made it.
From Green River to Price, traffic was mostly going south, not north so that was good. The lower the elevation we got, the better I felt about the truck. Once we got out of the nightmare between Provo and SLC, it was smooth sailing.
Reno to Donner summit wasn't too bad, but the traffic going into Sac. is just plain crazy. They have signs posted "All vehicles with trailers-55MPH max."
    Yeah,....right.
I tucked in behind a few semi's doing 70+ and stayed there for 30 miles, then I passed them! Once we got below 4K elevation the truck had enough power to keep up.
It wasn't fun, but it's over. We made it and that's the main thing. Now he can deal with $4.00+/gal. gas. :loco:
