These two trees were planted by my wife years ago from the little Christmas trees that you get in the pots at Christmas. they needed to come down as they were totally unruly and were planted too close to our well. Been wanting to take them down for a long time, and today was the day. Didn't keep any of the wood. It was super pitchy and wasn't worth it. All of it went to a co-generation plant where they will burn it to make electricity, so at least it didn't go to waste.
bigfrank Is the rest of the story going to be you and your wife getting more of those potted Christmas trees, but planting them further away from the well?
Yard grown pines can be a bear to split from all the branch knots. (unless they are grown close together forced to race to the canopy top) I've never, ever seen one sold as a Christmas tree but supposedly they are. Cheap shade and wind break but you really do have to cut them down and start over before they get too big if they are close to buildings/infrastructure. There's a guy down the street that has three or four of them in his side yard and he keeps them pruned into ball shapes topiary style, just large, like 20 feet large. Didn't notice they were pine trees until I got stuck in front of his house behind school bus stopping traffic.
These were about 10 years old. Growth rings were about 1/4" in size. The larger one was at least 20' tall. So they grew about 2' a year.
