What do yea think? Heavy, no real smell to it and bark is a little smoother than the pictures show. It's all firewood now that just needs stacked with the rest.

Stephiedoll Your third pic showing the wedge going thru the wood is very typical of how elm splits.

Im going with ash as well. Not sure of the variety. I had to look it up to satisfy my own curiosity and there is a green or red variety native to your area. Ive had fresh cut ash be hard to split. The bark is the giveaway for me. Nice wood regardless
16" ash round i scrounged/split last week but had to sledge and wedge.

 

Pretty sure its elm, very stringy, and it shreds instead of splits. Be on the lookout for a million splinters this winter when you start loading your stove!

 

The wood does not look dark enough for Elm. It is more white like ash but the bark does not look like ash so it is not something that I have not seen around here.

I was going with fresh cut. I think all we have here is white ash.
