Silver maple for the win. How close are these trees to the house Rodger? I'd check out the ISA website and find a certified arborist to do a tree risk assessment if the trees are close to the house: International Society of Arboriculture > For the Public They should also be able to recommend a reduction pruning regimen at the same time.
One at 14ft. the other 2 20 to 30 ft. Thanks for the link. There is an Arborist with a lot of credentials behind his name in the next town over. Check your PM
Yup!!! I did mine "trying to save them". Nope! They died. You only get 50 to 60 years from a silver maple.
We have been here for 23 years and they were not small trees when we bought the place. The house was built in the '20s so I figure they are well over 50 years. Sure hope they can be save them. No AC and my mom is amazed how cool the house is with no AC. I attribute that to the shade and would hate to loose them.
