What kind of Oak is this?

    I have several of these around the house and are not sure what they are. This one I transplanted a few years ago from the ditch just up the road.
    I mentioned a few months ago I have a tree that would have scared the crap out of me if I had seen one as a little kid. This is that tree. The gnarly branches are like hands and arms coming out to get you.

    Looks like a Bur or Swamp White to me. Should be able to tell once it leafs out.

    I have tons of bur oak libs look way different then ours . We get acorns with cap almost goes around whole acorn . And DNR said they were Burr oak here . Burr oak limbs look alot like white oak ..
    Red oak are bit different . DNR said Burr oak are alot tuffer then white or red oak . I believe him we got 100+ old trees where lighting blow Chuck's out of them and there still living . They have alot of lighting scares . [​IMG]
