It was a nice day here in Southern Connecticut, mostly sunny all day. Not wanting to work in full sun I went late this afternoon hoping the area was shaded, which it was for the most part. Back has been pretty sore so i put the big logs on hold. Cut a couple ash logs off to the side down an embankment and some from the top of the pile. Loaded what i cut and filled 2/3 of PU so i went back up top and cut more to finish the load. This load 60% ash, balance sugar maple, red maple and sassafras...first time ive cut that in a few years, Forgot how much i like the smell. Do they make aftershave that smells like sassy? Perfect for a FHC guy if they do!

lower btu's. Good shoulder season wood. Spits a lot. Splits very easy. Smells like root beer. If im not mistaken they used to make sarsparilla out of it cigarsmokingzombie Dunno about the STD"S...news to me. Mebbe ill chew on a twig next time! LOL!!!
Went for a 10 day backpacking trip through the green mountains when I was a kid. One of the group leaders made us Sassafras tea out of the green branch ends if I remember correctly. Wasn’t bad. Of course everything’s good when your out in the woods long enough. LOL Black Birch is the twig to chew on anytime I’m out for any length of time I’ll pop one of those in my mouth.
My older brother was a big into backpacking jo191145 years back. He used to chew spruce and pine needles while he hiked. I never tried it. I never went backpacking more than one night with him, but i imagine after a few days, yes anything would taste good. Theres a few little sassies growing on the edge of our woods, maybe ill make some. BuZZsaw's organic Sassafras tea! A FHC delicacy mebbe?
Basically cutting from the top of the pile down Moparguy, although i couldve taken a barkless oak log instead of the sassy, but hadnt cut any in years.

Semi alive.....she ran for the one good load when I posted the story about her and it's been more chasing issues since then. Erratic issues and I finally pulled the computer out and I am about 95% convinced that is the issue after opening the case. I have teetered on scrapping her or putting more money into her. At this moment I am thinking she may live another day but I have to just chit or get off the pot. I just hate to put my other truck to hard labor yet.
