my pruning job went without issue yesterday. The limbs were on the smaller side. My little Husky saw gave me problems. and had to use the pruning saw. Ive cut limbs off ladders for years. Lifetime of experience with both.

Pardon a newbie thinking it through, but I guess a hinge cut is about the opposite of what you’d want on a large branch like this. It knows which way it is going to fall. A kerf on the inside and then your back cut further out would release better, right.

It depends upon the limb. Most times I do not notch but most times I'm only cutting small limbs so just a short cut on the bottom will do the trick nicely.

IMO yes. Ive seen tree companies cut limbs fast that way and they drop straight down for the most part. Sometimes they want the limb to hang on and cut slowly from the top only til the limb falls but holds on. Most of the time they have it roped off that way and then lower it to the ground. I watched a tree guy last Summer at my GF's moms take down a tree close to her house. I got the wood of course!!! Nice red oak!

There are so many videos of folks being knocked off ladders by limbs it's ridiculous. So sad, you know that a lot of them must have gotten seriously hurt.
