What is it about trufuel that makes it better than home mixed non-ethanol fuel? I’ve seen posts that says it is better for long term storage, but I don’t know why. I add fuel stabilizer and just a bit of sea foam to my fuel for luck. When the saws are going on the shelf here, they are idled empty as I see no reason to leave fuel or any kind in them. I believe it is good fuel and good additives and good synthetic oil, but there's no way I'm paying $5-6 per quart for the convenience! Especially when Avgas is $5 per gallon...
You are exactly right. I think the "shelf life" claim is for unopened cans (?). Otherwise, as you say freshly mixed non-ethanol +/- stabilizer when in use and store dry as you are doing. Which reminds me, I need to go out and run a couple of my saws dry...
Anything that comes off the shelf here stays off the shelf until it is empty. Otherwise I lose track. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm like Tim. No way am I paying that price for gas. I am simply amazed at how much of that stuff is sold. Guess lots of people have way more dollars than I do. I've used regular gas for longer than most guys on this forum have been on this earth and it is extremely rare for me to have a gas problem with any motor.
I did have fuel go bad over a winter one time. Can wasn't sealed tight... Luckily it didn't ruin my saw. That was probably 15 years ago
I think that mix is good for the homeowner that uses a gallon or less per year in a trimmer, etc. No mixing, storing, buying 2 stroke oil and so forth. I know most of us here cut wood, maintain larger properties, and use our tools often. I am just an amateur compared to many of you, but I can burn a gallon in a morning of trimming or wood cutting. Bad enough I spend 6-7 dollars a gallon for non-ethanol gas, a bottle of mix, and some Sea-Foam. Can't imagine spending $40 for a gallon of pre-mix!
$20. Since my retirement from heating with wood, I have to admit, I don’t really use enough mix to justify doing my own. I might buy two gallon cans a year just to keep my blowers and the trimmer running.
I've converted my dad to it and give him 4-5 quarts every year for Christmas. He doesn't use much and getting forgetful. Straight gassed his new Echo trimmer a few years ago and this makes it fool-proof.
I personally brought 4 cans to Backwoods GTG....didnt want to transport or worry about mixing fuel after traveling 550 miles.....4 cans (1 gallon) cost $22.00....
Hot! Working on getting my green back.... had some setbacks with my equipment and work is still very demanding in my schedule. Doesn’t look too bad considering I knocked it down to .500” from about 1.5” two weeks ago. But this is what I’d like to get back to and then some!
Fixed it for you Dennis. Seriously though I think it has its place for folks who don't use a lot of 2 stroke mix and don't feel like mixing their own. However, as a certified cheapskate it's a marketing gimmick!!!! No advantage over quality synthetic oil (which often has the same fuel stabilizers) and ethanol free gasoline. Heck for the price they charge per gallon you could throw some Star Tron or sea foam into the gasoline if it made you feel better, and still be ahead money. The cute little metal cans make convenient containers for emergency extra fuel. More than once the spare can in the truck has saved my bacon after I forgot my primary fuel can. Also makes a gooder place to pour that extra glug when you have just a little bit left in the can and want to mix a new batch of fuel but don't have any more saws to fill.
You guys that don’t buy the premix what cost per gallon would it take for you to use it? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
