CD7EC096-68AF-4BAB-83EF-02557D0916C6.jpeg It’s a Stihl yard boss MM55(c-e I think). Was thinking about getting a smaller tiller last week. Today I saw this at a farm supply store, $ 399 plus tax. Includes the wheel kit, supposedly a $59 add on. Are they worth a chit? Looks like there’s 8 different attachments for it. Is it one of those gimmicky tools that will do many things, but not do any of them very well. Who has one and what do you think about it. What attachments do you have??

FIL loves his Mantis and has for years.
Something went south in the gear box finally and he had a hard time find a part. I think he finally did but it was expensive.
I found one on CL, the whole tiller, for $75. Cleaned it up and tuned it and he loves that one too.
I’m not a fan for the garden. Tines cut too fast and fine and turns the earth to powder over the years. IMO.

I bought a used Mantis tiller a few years ago and it is very hard to start. Almost takes an act of congress to get it to run. Works great once you get it going.

I bought one pretty much like that (I'm guessing 7-8 years ago)... Used it for several years at my house. But when I moved over to the bigger garden at my neighbor. I gave my dad it. He loves it for his smaller garden... It works good for breaking up the top soil...

I have one. 5yrs old now.
Every year I find a new way to use it.
I took the wheels off. Much easier to do really fine work.
Puts all the weight on the tines....lets the machine do all the work
I use the other set of tines.

After I run the big tiller, I prepare each planting bed w/the Yardboss.
I use it to open my little ditches for each row when I start flood watering.
Works great to cultivate each row for weeds.
    It is a great tool.

..infact, just yesterday, finally made a proper place for it to hang in my tool shed.

    Can't go wrong w/Stihl.

My 028WB saw I had in Alaska ran for 28 years.....no problems.
Finally burned a hole in the top of the piston.
When I bought the MS260, they gave me $20 for the 028.

Not really afraid/ or worried about the brand. Just seems that multi purpose tools often are not all they are supposed to be

Funny, I just bought one today.

Make sure to look at the model carefully. Last fall they discontinued the 55 and came out with the 56. I got last year’s model, $350 out the door with wheels and a 6 pack of synthetic oil. The guy in the shop didn’t realize that there was a new model this year till I asked him the difference between the 55 and 56. He even had a MM56 product tag and price on it. Once I called him on it he realized that he wanted to sell the 55 if he could.

I bought it specifically for tilling and loosening up dirt. I have no plan to put a weed wacker or broom head on it. It’ll be used primarily for trail building although the garden patch will get loosened up too. I’ve used one before. The motor down low with the bicycle handle bars behind puts the weight on the tiller. Much better than the Kombi setup in that respect.

    Echo does .... but it's only a tiller ...
Garden Tiller Soil Tiller Compact Cultivator

Echo also offers a powered cultivator as an attachment in their PAS handheld offerings, as does Stihl in their Kombi line. The Echo tiller attachment is a bit larger ...

One of the most popular attachments we sell for the Stihl MM56 is the paddle-style sweeper ..... really moves some material!

So I went ahead and bought it today at a different dealership than where I saw it yesterday. Actually was $ 10 cheaper but the town has it’s own city sales tax, so that part was pretty much a wash. I was however pretty impressed with the dealer attitude. It was an Ace hardware store & they promised good support if I have any issues. They seemed knowledgeable and sincere. I run it some this evening, and think I’ll get along well with it, once I get the starting procedure down. Bought a can of the high price fancy premix to get the warranty extended from 2 to 4 years.

That’s funny because when I was buying it the salesman asked me if I had any other Stihl products! I told him “No, I’m pretty much a Husqvarna man from my belly button both ways”! The other customer next to me started laughing and said “that sounds like he’s pretty serious” the salesman got a pretty good chuckle out of it to.
