I called the local saw shop this morning, the owner said he had a Echo order list in his hand at that time. Told me he normally orders them with 24'' bars, i thought about a 18, then called him back and decided on a 20'' bar. When i first told him what i was looking for, he laughed, said he ''couldn't keep them in stock'', i mentioned the 5 yr warr, he said he's never had one come back, and he doubted it would be a worry in any way. He did try selling me the 490, but i told him i'd heard way too much GOOD news about the 590 he didn't argue with me on that point, lol. So, it'll be in thurs he thinks, and i'll get it gassed, and ready to go out and try to find some wood to cut up. One more thing, one of the help mentioned it would probably come with some kind of a safety type chain, i'll let them keep that, and see if i can trade up to a good chain. I could have bought at the Home Dept, but, found out to have any service work, they would send it out, to a service center. Plus, a Echo dealer CAN refuse to work on the saw if its not been sold at their shop. I called Echo about that and the person on the other end told me that is correct, and, that its up to the dealer if he wants to work on a Echo bought at another store. So, to be safe, i'm staying local, paid a little more, but, i feel better about what i did.
I like em B.Brown. Pete does also. New CS590 Timber Wolf is in! ( Review ) Haven't had a problem at all since bought and they start without pulling your guts out like the St-hl's I've had.
Someone just posted a lightly used Stihl MS290 and case for CDN$350 (approx US$250). The specs say it is 56.5cc and 13.0 lbs. The sale on the Echo CS590 ended so it is back up to CDN$665.00. The MS291 is available for CDN$500 still. Any thoughts on the MS290 before I go look at it?
Thanks again Buzz and others. The saw was stihl available. The owner bought it new, used on property he had, and had it serviced by the local dealer. It did not take long for the two of us to find a common friend and connections, as is typical in a small city/province! The chain was as dull as could be, but the saw started easily and runs well. I guess I can update my signature block to be the owner of a Stihl and since I have the old Partner I am a two saw guy...beginning to fit right in .
