I hit the nearby dumps to get firewood from the edges of the brush pile. Usually it’s pine and soft maple and now ash with the increase in EAB. I’m lucky to get manageable sized rounds, but I take what I can. Got really lucky yesterday and found some actual split firewood! In a big puddle but was in great condition. Some good big splits of ash and some oak. Maybe half a truckload of that stuff and some other of the normal pine limbs a such.
That is a really lucky find! My dump only has pine and spruce. The DEP shut down the local dumps from receiving wood, because they are over the square foot limit of wood piled up.. I just started working for a fairly large tree service that gives me crane trucks full of mixed hardwood. They need to dump it somewhere and my house is less than 10 minuets from the shop.
Yes that is an ideal set up you have there. My neighbor does some landscaping and a bit of tree work. Thus far it has not been a consistent source of wood but maybe will be at some point.
If there are any larger tree companies near you, like one that just does tree work, I would give them a call and tell them you are willing to take on some dump trucks. Introduce yourself and explain that you use the wood for heat. They will appreciate that. You never know until you try.

great find Ctwoodtick persistence pays off. Im in Norwich as i type and was amazed at how much the state has cut along 95
ive scored "roadkill" on Conn. interstates with no issue Ctwoodtick just once. I was in the left hand breakdown lane and a state cop stops. Says i have to leave and safely lets me out. Havent in a few years though. If you do, pull WAY off the road. On the way home from Norwich, i saw some logs they left behind. Not many but looked easy enough to get and cut if needed. Ive done it plenty of times on state highways. Just use common sense for your own safety. If its too blind and/or heavy traffic i pass on it. Not worth it.
I’m up and down 395 every so often and there is a lot of really nice stuff on the east side of the northbound. Power easement maintenance. Just north of Plainfield / Oneco. I’ve seen a couple of hoarders filling their pickups.
a friend of mine lives in Killingly has told me about all the wood up there including Ct Rte 6. Too far for me. He is 71 and ill help him get a truck full every now and then. Get one for myself as well. No sense coming home with an empty truck!

The wood is actually in the Northford section of North Branford...5 minutes closer to you. Not that its that much of a difference. The wood can be backed up to, cut and loaded. Split on site as well....sledge and wedge.
Hmm, i May just have to make a field trip out there this summer when I should have a lot more time. Do you expect to have this wood resource for a while?
I scored the wood a month ago. Im gonna try to get a load every week Guy told me to come and cut at my leisure. As far as i know it will be there for a while. He took the sign down. I told the guy if he had others to take it, dont wait on me. The pile is not in his way and easily accessible. I know its far and if you cant no worries Ctwoodtick
