Anyone else hunting morels? They just started popping here in central Indiana. My wife and I found 60 last night in about an hour.
With as much rain as we've been getting, they will be starting. But then again it's been pretty cold. 38 for a a low and 42 for a high. We have a fire going tonight.
Ive been wanting to search for these for awhile even though Ive never eaten them. I hear they grow in old forest fire areas the best in our part of the Canadian Rockies. We have snow blocking many of the back country roads so we will have to be patient.
Here in Washington St. I mostly fall mushroom hunt. I know a lot of folks who morel hunt but have never eaten or hunted them. Will have to try it on our way up when the highland lakes are fishable!
I have morels close by. We look around dead elm trees around the time the lilacs are blooming. They sure are good.
Found 4 greys in the small rural cemetery across from our house today. I have been in my woods twice but have yet to find one there yet. My neighbors lilac bush is about to bloom that is my indicator to start looking for the yellows. Once I start finding yellows, the monster blondes are about 15-18 days away in my woods.
My wife tempura battered about half of the morels I found in the yard and fried them. They were good, but the morel taste was wasted in this application. The rest will go on top of a pizza.
your pic is making me drool they look great! my fav ways are scrambled eggs with morels and put morels in beef or venison stew yum yum
two more lbs this morn but I had to leave many in da woods the season is winding down they are too far gone
Our season is just started to go here by the big lake. The big one was the largest I've ever seen I've got big hands, so this was a large one. This one was pretty big too.
