one of my fears about getting large amounts of tree service wood dumped BigPapi is its pot luck on what you'll get. Tree services are more than happy to unload their waste wood. Not like buying a triaxle load of "premium hardwood". Be one thing if i had wide open space and could let the crap wood rot. The pile i cut from seemed to have about 50% premium hardwood and ill bet i couldve got 2=3 more loads from it.
i like making brush runs as the truck is empty. Ill get him a Dunkin gift card as i dont think he drinks.
Same here, there is no such thing as a log dump around me. Wood is like gold in my neck of the woods when it's "free".
Time to always put some of the dollars away from cutting jobs and label that for buying in the country!
I did that on my old F150 JWinIndiana! Had plywood sides up to the racks. I delivered full cords of seasoned splits, but no more. Green wood weighs it down pretty good.
After I posted this I saw your post about the oaks and you had a great load on it! Dad used to say, if the back bumper don't drag you aren't fully loaded! Looking good, you are snagging some nice firewood for those coming winter nights.
I used to overload my '95 F150 so bad...finally gave in a bought a F250 Superduty...glad I did, doesn't feel like I'm abusing the truck anymore...a heaping load of green Oak still gets 'er squattin a bit though...
when i can i get my moneys worth out of a load brenndatomu Luckily most of my scores are close to home...ten minutes or less. Although i did drive halfway across Connecticut last Summer with a big load...1 1/2 hour trip!
Howdy doo to you as well! Skier76 ! Im actually in North Haven almost in Northford, but had lived in Wallingford til 2010. My PO box is there. I still consider myself a Wallingfordian (is that the correct term)? Good pickens down at compost center sometimes.
Small world! I totally agree. I drop brush off there now and again. I often can't get over some of the rounds people drop there. A few years back, I talked to the guy running the operation. Nice guy; we talked about the massive tub grinder that comes by now and again to grind things up. Quite a piece of machinery! I burn pellets in CT, so I do all my scrounging in Vermont where the wood stove is. I drove by Sleeping Giant today. Talk about a lot of wood on the ground...wow!
Yes a small world it is Skier76 ! A late friend of mine worked for the company that used to have the contract there. (Greencycle inc) He would call me when wood was dropped and all it cost me was a soda/coffee. Ive been there when the tub grinder is working. Amazing to see. Guy scoops brush, drops it in the cylinder and a conveyor carries out the chips at a steady pace. I think the guys name is Gil. Sometimes there is a second guy when its real busy. Take a ride by Wharton Brook as well. Ive seen Sleeping Giant too!
