All Wood / Timberwolf splitters

I’ve decided that modifying my Huskee splitter into a push thru design isn’t gonna happen . It served me well , but will be sold when I decide on a new splitter .

I’ve looked at as many brands as I can find online . Seen Timberwolf and All Wood first hand . Very impressed with both as I’m sure the other brands out there are equally well built .
Don’t like the fact that Timberwolf is no longer making the T5/6 series . They are going to an Alpha model which is of course more money.

Drove down to All Wood , he’s in southern Mi and had a nice conversation. The guy makes some seriously HD splitters with all the options included . I like his new design for the push block , it’s sorta wedge shaped and will allow the log to stay in place easier imo . Here’s a pic of the push block for his Oak series splitter which is basically his entry level splitter . It ways 80 lbs and is built like a tank ! Got some serious thinking to do now .

 

Hey Dennis , when I sell the husky can I use your pics along with the red milk crate as a feature of the husky ? Gotta be a sucker out there somewhere!

 

Stay away from All Wood! He'll tell you what you want to hear and ignore you if you have problems. There are some serious design flaws in his equipment. Had one, sent it back. There are much better built machines out there.

 

That new alpha model doesn't seem as good to me as a TW 5 or 6

 

Have you looked at wolf ridge or Eaton. I almost bought a custom wolf ridge with box wedge, single and 4 way. It has pull back bar and auto cycle valve.

Yes I have looked at both , online videos .
Price starts to go up quite a bit when you add “ options “ and shipping .

 

wishlist have you looked at the Rugged Bilt brand? I've got the big one & it's done well. Not quite a TW, but not near the $$$ either.

 

I really like the Alpha, but I like the Eastonmade 22-28 with the 12 way wedge more. I bet it could knock out 3 cords an hour, if you could keep it fed.

 

AC I have seen just the videos of them . Maybe you can bring yours to Backwoods Savage’s get together and leave it near that old dirt road and I’ll check it out around 2 am !

 

Well over 10k on that one . I think when you need something that size most people start doing processors.

 

What about a powersplit? They have a few different models.

 

That's all good if you got the right sized wood for that, and it's not knotty. I hardly use my 6 way, due to my rounds being 24"+ diameter (usually around the 30" mark). It does make a lot of scrap, but that's good starting kindling. If you had a local supplier of wood, I could see where a 12 way would work. It's just not for me.

 

Yea I had a big write up on AS about it. Finally one of his customers told him about it, and he contacted me.....since he wouldn't return my calls nor respond to my emails. Upon returning the splitter, it was agreed I take the post down. I still warn people though, as it was a crappy deal for me. I had Alex build me one, and I haven't had one issue with it....unlike the one Bobby made. Yea his are cheaper, but you get what you pay for. If you want quality, you will pay for it.

 

The 6 way on my tw6 rarely comes off and it doesn’t matter how big the rounds are.

 

I leave my 4 way on most of the time too, & just re split what's too big. For the boiler I don't care, but if I'm splitting for somebody's stove I gotta watch it.

 

I'm getting pickier about what size wood I get. The last order I placed, I told the guy I wanted wood 16'' and smaller. I don't like messing big stuff. It is harder to handle. A 2 way wedge, makes the nicest firewood. That is part of the reason I bought the splitter I have. He said that in the video with the 12 way, he was splitting a 18'' piece. I think it would work real nice on something 14-16.'' I'd like to see the middle part of the wedge be bigger so the middle splits would be a little big and it would reduce the size of the outer splits. The beauty of this Eastonmade splitter is you can easily change wedge out. You can run a 4, 6, or 8 way, or a box wedge.

 

The first guys weren't doing much but the second guys were getting the job done. The splitter in that video is $25k. I think a single splitter with out a conveyor is $6k.
