We Love Because God Loves Us

    BY RICK WARREN — APRIL 7, 2019

“We love because he first loved us” (1 John 4:19 NIV).

One reason God wants us to love is because he is love, and he created us to be like him—to love. The only reason we’re able to love is because God loves us: “Love comes from God . . . because God is love” (1 John 4:7-8 NIV).

We were created in God’s image to do two things on Earth: Learn to love God and learn to love other people. Life is all about love.

But love all started with God. He loved us first, and that gives us the ability to love others (1 John 4:19). The only reason you can love God or love anybody else is because God first loved you. He showed that love by creating you. He showed that love by everything you have in life; it’s all a gift of God’s love. And he showed that love by sending Jesus Christ to Earth to die for you.

In order to love others well, we first need to understand and experience how much God loves us. We don’t want to just talk about love, read about love, or discuss love; we need to encounter the love of God.

We need to reach a place when we truly understand how God loves us completely and unconditionally. We need to become secure in the truth that we cannot make God stop loving us.

Once we’re secure inside God’s unconditional love, we’ll start cutting people a lot more slack. We won’t be as angry as we’ve been. We’ll be more patient. We’ll be more forgiving. We’ll be more merciful. We’ll give others grace.

But you cannot give others something you haven’t received yourself. I hope that as you learn how much God loves you, you’ll also let him heal your heart so that his love can flow freely through you. It’s impossible to love others until you really feel loved yourself

    First impressions are lasting impressions.

When seeking employment, forget about a job! Instead, concentrate on what you can give.

Every day, you can easily see both your best friend and your worst enemy at the same time, simply by standing in front of a mirror.

As the twig is bent, so shall the twig grow.

    Failure cannot cope with persistence.

There is no hope of success for the person who repels people through a negative personality.

    Love Is a Choice

    BY RICK WARREN — APRIL 8, 2019

    1.7K

“Love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the LORD is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob” (Deuteronomy 30:20 NIV).

Too many people have bought into the myth that love is uncontrollable, that it’s something that just happens to us. In fact, even the language we use implies the uncontrollability of love. We say, “I fell in love,” as if love were some kind of a ditch. I’m walking along one day and—bam!—I fell in love. I couldn’t help myself.

But here’s the truth: That’s not love. Love doesn’t just happen to you. Love is a choice, and it represents a commitment.

There’s no doubt that attraction is uncontrollable and arousal is uncontrollable. But attraction and arousal are not love. They can lead to love, but they are not love. Love is a choice.

You must choose to love God; he won’t force you to love him (Deuteronomy 30:20). You can thumb your nose at God and go a totally different way. You can destroy your life if you choose to do that. God still won’t force you to love him, because he knows love can’t be forced.

This same principle is true about your relationships: You can choose to love others, but God won’t force you to love anyone

The uncontrolled desire for “something for nothing,” the gambling instinct, drives millions straight into failure.

Indecision and procrastination are twin brothers.

The person who takes no chances generally has to take whatever is left over when others are through choosing. Over-caution is as bad as under-caution.

Superstition is nothing more than fear. It is also a sign of ignorance.

Without enthusiasm, you cannot be convincing. Enthusiasm is contagious and the person who has it generally is welcome in any place or in any group.

The majority of people who fail are, generally, easily influenced by the opinions of others. They permit the newspapers, TV, and the gossiping neighbors to do their thinking for them.

More people want to see you fail than want to see you succeed.

It is a characteristic of people who have but a smattering bit of knowledge to try to give the impression that they have a lot of knowledge. Such people generally do too much talking and too little listening.

Those who talk too much do little else.

If you talk more than you are listening, you not only deprive yourself of many opportunities to acquire knowledge, but you also disclose your plans and purposes to people who will take great delight in defeating you, because they envy you.

Never tell the world what you intend to do until you have already shown them.

Will power and desire, when properly combined, make an irresistible pair.

Christian, you have the words of life that must be shared, spoken and proclaimed to this dying culture. Everyday, find opportunities to speak love, truth, and pray in Jesus’ name.

    The Lesson Of The Dogwood
Every year during the Springtime in the heart of the Easter season the Dogwood flower blossoms. The Dogwood reveals to us a most amazing story. The flower is in the shape of a cross it has blood red coloring in the areas of the head, hands, and feet the same places that Christ was pierced and crowned with a crown of thorns. A tree that was an instrument of death became the tree of life. From the center of the pedal comes what looks like a crown symbolizing the crown of thorns worn by our savior. New life is bursting forth out of the agony of suffering from the crown of thorns to now a crown of glory. Through the agony and suffering of the cross follows a resurrection. There is much to learn from this beautiful pedal, God lovingly reminds us every year how much He loves us. Through what Jesus accomplished for us through all His suffering and the glory of His resurrection we can have new life when we have faith in Him and his gift of eternal life.

People should realize there is a difference between the emotions of love and sex. Love is spiritual while sex is biological. Too many people think they are in love, while what they really are is in heat.

People are influenced by their feelings more than reason.

Seldom does an individual enter upon highly creative effort in any field before the age of 40. The average man reaches the period of his greatest capacity to create between the age of 40 and 60.

The mind is a creature of habit and it thrives upon the dominating thoughts fed it.

Love and sex in marriage can bring about a state of mind closest to the spiritual that one may know on this earthly plane.

A man’s wife can either assist in making him or breaking him. Man’s greatest motivating force is his desire to please woman. It is this inherent desire of man to please woman which gives woman the power to either make or break him.

No man is happy or complete without the modifying influence of the right woman.

The subconscious mind is the connecting link between man and God. It is the intermediary through which one may draw upon the forces of God at will.

Positive and negative emotions cannot occupy the mind at the same time. It is your responsibility to make sure that positive emotions constitute the dominating influence of your mind.

Emotion or feeling rules the majority of people.

Most people resort to prayer only after everything else has failed. Because of this, they actually go to prayer with their minds filled with fear and doubt, which are emotions that the subconscious mind acts upon and passes on to God. Likewise, that is the emotion which God receives and acts upon.

All men become what they are because of their dominating thoughts and desires.

Indecision is the seedling of fear. It crystallizes into doubt, the two blend, and become fear. Fear is nothing more than a state of mind.

The fear of poverty is the most destructive and the most difficult to master.

Nothing brings man so much suffering and humility as poverty. Only those who have experienced it understand the full meaning of this.

Every man has the ability to completely control his mind.

Nature has endowed man with absolute control over but one thing; thought.

Keep your mind closed against all people who depress or discourage you in any way.

Deliberately seek the company of people who might influence you to think and act for yourself.

Do not expect troubles as they have a tendency not to disappoint.

Without doubt, the most common weakness of all people is the habit of leaving their minds open to the negative influence of other people.

If you fail to control your own mind, you may be sure you will control nothing else.

Your mind is your spiritual estate. Protect and use it with the care to which Divine Royalty is entitled.

Bring Your Love and Work Together

    BY RICK WARREN — APRIL 11, 2019

    1.6K

“Do all your work in love”(1 Corinthians 16:14 GNT).

The apostle Paul says, “Do all your work in love” (1 Corinthians 16:14 GNT).

He doesn’t say some of your work but all of your work. He also says that “no matter . . . what I do, I’m bankrupt without love” (1 Corinthians 13:3 The Message).

The point is that any job can be turned into worship when it is built on the foundation of Christ’s love. When that happens, his love is expressed through you to co-workers, clients, and customers. Mother Teresa said, “It’s not what you do so much that matters, but how much love you put into it.”

Think about it like this: Two-thirds of the word “career” is C-A-R-E. The English philanthropist John Ruskin once said, “When love and skill come together, expect a masterpiece.”

So I want you to pray a prayer every day this week—whether it’s at home or at school, in your backyard or your neighborhood, or wherever you work. I want you to pray, “Father, today I want to worship you through my work. I want to express my gifts. I want to do it as if I’m doing it for you, and I want to do it in love.”

“So then, my friends, because of God’s great mercy to us I appeal to you: Offer yourselves as a living sacrifice to God, dedicated to his service and pleasing to him. This is the true worship that you should offer” (Romans 12:1 GNT)
