I have bought pre-measured mix oil for so long, I have forgotten how to figure it. I have an MS029 and a MS362. Always ran Sthil oil in both, started using the ultra when it came out @ 50:1 as book recommended. Having huskihl do some magic on the 029 right now and will probably leave the 362 with him too. Wondering if I need to go with a richer mix now. I'm mixing 5 gallons at the time and should I swap over to Amsoil sabre or Schaeffer 7000/9000? What weight to use? And where can I find it?
I've used Schaeffer 7000. Supposedly it isn't quite right for a saw, but it is the best oil I've ever used by far. Everything inside is clean, well lubed, and always plenty of residual oil left inside upon disassembly. If I had easy access to it, that would be the only oil I'd use
I’ve used 40/1 in all my stuff since I got into the modified saw world. On occasion, I’ll pull the cylinder off and check the condition. 40 leaves a nice amount of oil in the bottom for bearings. The 6.4oz bottles mix 2 gallons to 40.
Is the one you used for 2 cycle? When I looked on Amazon for the Schaeffer 7000, it came in several weights, 5-30, 20-50, 15-40?
Schaeffer Oil | Supreme 9000™ Full Synthetic 2-Cycle Racing Oil Although many have had really good luck with this oil and the 7000 in chainsaws, both oils are recommended for use in water cooled engines only. Ashless Two cycle oils for water cooled engines don't have the appropriate anti-wear additives, and do not hold up as well to the temperatures air cooled engines operate at. So use them with caution. There is a reason these oils burn so clean, they lack the appropriate anti-wear additives.
I use 40:1 in all my stuff since I got the ported saw. MS250 has no problems with the ratio and the Kombi unit also likes it. Both are 50:1 machines. How do you figure it? 128 ozs. per gallon. Divide 128 by the ration you want would equal the amount of oil you need to add. I my case 128/40 = 3.2 oz of oil. I use the Stihl Ultra oil also. One bottle to .8gallons of gas.
Thanks, that helped alot. We have a MS 029 that is being ported, MS362 that will be and the 130 Kombi unit.
I run 32:1 in all my ported saws, 40:1 I fine as well. I have ran many different oils and Stihl ultra is one of the worst oils out ther when it come to cost and performance, they're far better options available IMHO.
I'm running 32:1 Dolmar 2 stroke in my saws. No issues & no smoke or carbon problems. Easy math too. 4oz per gallon of fuel.
Simple, ain't it? Especially when it was $48 for 24 13oz bottles. At least well have enough to last us awhile
I have a old oil container that I just refill to measure out oil in... and a black marker on my gas tank that tells me what I need...
